Oil In Turbo Compressor inlet
Was wondering if someone could lend an opinion..................
I just got my ZX14 running, it has a brand new GT2854R dual ball bearing unit on it. I haven't ridden it yet, but noticed that if I blip the throttle I see a little bit of oil come into the compressor inlet. It doesn't seem to smoke. There are 2 things that come to mind and I was hoping someone might shed some light on this for me.
1) Oil inlet has .036 restrictor in it. Oil oulet, I am running the small oil scavenge pump that you can get from Schnitz or a number of other places. It only has 1/4" barb inlet and outlet. I know that the turbo outlet calls for a larger line, but because I am "sucking" the oil out and not gravity draining, I thought the 1/4" would be enough. Now I'm not so sure..........
2) It is my understanding that if I'm only going to run 5 lbs of boost that I don't need a BOV. I'm wondering if without a BOV, when I blip the throttle and then close it, if it is creating a positive pressure which blows back out the compressor inlet and thus draws a little oil past the "piston ring" seal?
Any thoughts would be appreciated, Thank You!

How do you have the bearing housing configured, oil inlet on top drain on bottom? Are you sure the pump is working? With the restrictor orifice at .036 the pump should be scavenging fine. I dont think you are pulling oil by the seal ring by closing the throttle unless there is a broken seal ring. Make sure you dont have a flow restriction back to the pan. Blipping the throttle increases oil pressure and flow from idle and if there is a return flow problem the oil will go into the compressor and turbine housings.

when you say inlet are you meaning the cold side air filter side? check your scavage pump .

Yes, the cold side intake where the filter attaches. I'm pumping the oil back into a fitting installed in the oil cap location. I pulled the fitting and stuck it in a pan and it seems to be pumping fine.
I have the oil inlet at the top, and the drain on bottom, almost perfectly straight up and down.

that is a tough one, if anything if it wasnt draining fast enough it would be coming out the hot side. check to see if all your bolt holding the center section together are tight. you might have missed some when you were configuring it. thats just a guess I dont know if that would let oil in that side or not.
