MY DYNO RESULTS
I finally had a chance to get my skoot on the dyno. We did baseline runs and then installed a set of KR TUNED slip-ons. They were for the 06-07 so i had the front ends of the mid-pipes swaged out to fit the 09 collector outlets.
First, there was a nice 16 pound drop in weight, a difference i felt immediately when i took the skoot out for a very short test ride after we did the follow up dyno runs. We will now be able to perform our Stage 1 suspension set-up next week, so i am really lookin forward to how the skoot's handling will be improved overall.
Second, the increases in power were very nice. The peak power went from 158.71 to 161 17, with a gain of more than 5 h.p. just before the rev limiter. Peak torque went from 97.96 to 98.98. More importantly is the power gain from about 5k and up.There is an increase in power at 7k where the stock muflers caused a noticeable dip, the power went from 118.06 to 124.3, torque went from 88.77 to 93.46. Throttle response is MUCH better, the skoot is running cooler, i am curious to see how much better the gas mileage will be and how much smoother the engine is. My test ride was barely 6 minutes so i will need a longer ride to detirmine these other aspects.
Slip-on pic...

Pic of the "street legal" baffle restrictors that HAD to come out before the installation...

Dyno sheet...

The sound is a bit louder than i had hoped, but very deep and bassy. The sound should mellow out a bit over the miles. All in all for the money it was well worth the addition of the slip-ons. Keeps the symetry of the skoot, dropped alot of weight and made some nice gains in power.
Now i'm gonna ride this skoot and start workin on the Busa.

No mapping for this right now...i have to stop at some point and focus my time on other projects. I did not want to do anything more than d/b shield/lower foot pegs/ big touring grips to make the skoot more comfy that i had already done, but i could not pass on these s/ons as they were so cheap.

Numbers look spot on for slip ons.. I find them to be a waste of money unless someone gives them to you for free .. Tommy will be putting a nice smeg up for sale soon and i think chad has a smeg still for sale ... 600.00 bucks or either of them .. Good map and smeg should read 175 HP on your dyno ..

Not a waste of money considering how little i spent and the many positive improvements. I already did the pipe-a/f-removed the secondaries-pc-remap-BST wheels on my 2006 ZX14 and achieved 173...been there done that back in 2006 & 2007 so i am well aware of the possibilities, and as a shop owner not just on the ZX14, on other skoots as well.
For the small amount of time and money i achieved more than what i had hoped for. All the 14's we have done in the past have all had full systems so i had not done any comparisons on s/o's.
As i have explained to my customers for decades now full systems are not for everyone, and here i am a hi-po shop owner NOT going down the full system/pc/remap road as i have always done in the past. Maximum horsepower is NOT always the goal of all of us.
To say that slip-ons are not worth it unless they are free is ignoring the differences in what peeps want out of their skoots, the $$$ they can spend and the time they have to devote to all the things in their lives. I have strived to understand this thru the years and cannot be close-minded to all options, both for myself and my customers.

NOPE...i kept it simple and fitted the s/o's to the skoot. That was all the time i had and wanted to spend on the skoot.

Nice looks good and nice gains for not alot of $$ I have a new header 09 without the cat if you want it? I dont think its a waste of time if you got a deal on the slip ons but if you pay full price buy the full system for a little more money.

That would make an intresting dyno comparison as well as temp of the motor with a cat and without.

I guess you messed the part where what i said " I find them to be a waste of money " I didn't say for anyone ..If i have seen it once i have seen it a 100 times , Guys buys slip ons and a few weeks later he buys a full system ..He sells the slip ons for half price just dump them ... Then he goes and buys a 1000 system and doesn't check the For Sale ads for a used system for 600 ... Waste waste and more waste .. Again that's just me and i'm not telling you or anyone else what to do..

^^^^^.......... They are both old....... that's means they're wise....... so you should listen! But if you've already done the full system and still wanted to do slip-ons, then more power to you. I haven't really seen them at different prices cause you have to pay for 2 mufflers compared to just one with a full system.

The ZX14, like other twin muffler skoots is at a disadvantage price wise when it comes to exhaust mods. Two slip-ons are sometimes as much or more $$$ than a full system, and of course do not come with the extra power and weight loss benefits than full systems do.
Since my plate is full, but i still have that normal urge to tinker, i could not ignore the pricing of these s/o's. For what i paid for them i could retail them for $400 and make a decent profit. Plus they fit into my allowable time frame for working on the skoot. The only extra time needed was to run down to the muffler shop and have the mid-pipe ends swaged out, and they didn't even charge me!
I did get out on a ride yesterday and the improvements are very nice. I can much easier throw this thing into the turns with alot more confidence. The gas mileage has improved by about 3 to almost 4 more mpg, it takes longer for the temp bars to rise when i get into traffic.
The part throttle response is waaaaaaaay better with much better acceleration overall. The sound is ok, a nice growl out of it.
Now that i have this done we will set up the suspension and leave this skoot alone. The Busa motor came out of the frame this weekend so that is gonna be my focus for the next few months.
