replacing wheel bearings
Is there a good way to test wheel bearings to see if they need to be replaced? And how hard are they to replace. I'm fairly sure they need to be pressed in/out. can it be done without a press reasonably or is this something I need to take to a shopp and have done?

Bad bearings will usually have excess play or rough spots. What makes you suspect the bearings are bad?
If they require replacement have a good machine shop do the work. It’s very easy to muck up a bearing pressing it in. This is especially true if you plan to install ceramic bearings. These are very delicate and expensive.

I hear a clicking (like once or twice) when I take off. also the tires, both front and rear, don't free spin that well. I can't get a full spin out of the rear and barely a full spin out of the front. I also hear a noise when I spend the tire. It's not quite a grinding, but something rubbing...almost like the brake pads on the rotor.

then maybe it might just be the brake pads on the disk?? investigate that first..remove the pads and then free spin the wheels

Might be easier to remove the calipers. The wheel should spin freely.
