Gearing Question

Anyone ever try running 17/40? Good or bad results?

No, wondering if it would make the launch in first gear easier.

I have 17-40. not much of a change really. I ride open areas, long solo. I'm not sure how much the speedo healer is off. a temporary change I'm sure.

17/40 should put your speedo almost spot on.

Epd when you say launch do you mean at the track or just taking off in first on the street? If for the street I went with a 43 tooth rear and it makes take off so much smoother because you don't have to slip the cluch nearly as much as stock sprocket, but its still great on the highway.

You will hear different opinions, but if your going to the track, I think your going the wrong way in gearing. A 43 or 44 rear would suit you better. Or -1 front.

For the street it depends on where you ride. If you just want to be quick around town then I would drop 1 on the front and a couple on the back, but it will suck riding on the freeway. I am 225 with 17 43 and it is a huge improvement everywhere over stock.

I ordered the 40T, figured I would give it a go. Might improve speedo accuracy also........

One tooth on the rear isn't going to make a great deal of difference, but it's going to make it a little slower leaving from redlights and stop signs.

17/43 on stock chain that has stretched out is a Great street gearing. Still run 180 and roll om's in 6th at 70 I Much quicker. I am 6'3" 240 geared up. Made a Big difference styaing even with several members I have rolled on with at 60 in2nd gear and shifting a few times.
Or on open Hiway 75in 6th and hit to pass traffic pulls like 5th with 17/40 gearing.
