Taller 1st gear??
Does anybody know if someone manufacturers a taller 1st gear for the ZX14?? We use the engine in a car and we require a nice long 1st gear instead of the short oem 1st gear which isnt ideal for us at all.
We had a ZX12 motor in a car previously and that had a much better 1st gear ratio which was nice and long.
Any suggestions?

Have never heard of anything like that -- Wonder if there's a way to remove 1st gear and space it back out to accept starting in 2nd?

A larger front sprocket will give you a longer first gear...if one is available...an aftermarket vendor might offer one...?
Of course if utilized the change will naturally make all the gears longer accross the board....

Ok, Ive found all the ratios of all 3 bikes ZX12, ZX14 & Concours 14
ZX12
1st 2.429
2nd 1.824
3rd 1.440
4th 1.250
5th 1.130
6th 1.033
ZX14
1st 2.625
2nd 1.947
3rd 1.545
4th 1.333
5th 1.154
6th 1.036
Concours 14
1st 3.333
2nd 2.412
3rd 1.900
4th 1.545
5th 1.292
6th 1.074
As we can see, the ZX12 has a higher 1st gear and basicaly better overall ratios than the 14 for racing purposes.
Now the concours14 2nd gear is very close to that of the ZX12 1st gear (2.429-2.412)
If only it would fit! Any idea if this would be possible???

Front sprocket changeout cost less and is far less labour intensive
Just suprised that avenue of posibility is not exausted befotre deciding to split cases for one single gear change...
Good luck!!

Ok just in case ..this could help....my understanding is that the ZX-14 and ZX-12 front sprockets are interchangable...if the ZX-14 comes stock with a 17 tooth front sprocket...an 18 is easily available for $25.00 here in kneedraggers for the ZX-12R which may fit the ZX-14...

Thanks for the suggestions, but going for a bigger front sprocket will change the ratio of all the gears (final drive ratio).
What we are looking for is a taller 1st gear for the engine in order to make 1st gear closer to 2nd.
Looks like Robinson Industries can do the job by bringing first gear down to 2.4 as opposed to the 2.6 stock ratio.
Cheers.
