How bad are the bike thieves in your area?
I've never really noticed it happening much. After reading some motorcycle forums it seems like in some areas it's a major problem. I live in Texas and I guess it isn't that bad here? Maybe I'm just not noticing? How bad is it really out there?

It seems to be worst with super sport bikes, right now gixxer and cbr are the most commonly stolen bikes. I don't worry about the ZX much because lets face it any criminal that can lift a 580lb bike into a van can have it, i aint fucken with the dudes that can lift this heffer. Out here in Socal its been really bad as far as bike theft.

If they can lift Harleys than a Sportbike is light weight no matter what the size. I live in NJ and last year I personally knew 5 people that lost bikes plus another 5 that were friends of friends. There are statistics that rank states and NJ is not even close to the top ten. Here are the top 5: The current top five states for motorcycle thefts, according to the NICB:
California
Florida
Texas
North Carolina
Arizona
The most stolen bikes were made by Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki Motor Corp. Followed by Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd. and Harley-Davidson Inc., the NICB said, citing National Crime Information Center data. Honda motorcycles accounted for 24 percent of thefts.

I don't see how a alarm is gonna do anything, however there have been a few guys wiring up cheap $30 boost mobile phones to have active GPS on so you can find where your bikes at.

how an alarm does something is by alerting owner to anyone near your bike. Two-way pagers let you see what's happening. Then grab the weapon of choice to solve issue

They fall into different categories here. The youngsters who steal something small and wreck it in an evening and then there are the more professional types who arrive from up country in a van, lift the more expensive bikes and leave - fast.
That's why I have a Tracker fitted to my bike. They will have to get past two locked and alarmed cars and an alarmed garage door first but if they succeed the cops will be onto them as soon as they move the bike and will most likely follow them home and bust the whole outfit.
It helps that I live in a street where the neighbours all know each other and keep an eye open for anything suspicious too.

Here in Dayton Ohio we had a bit of a stolen bike sweep hit couple years ago -- Cops finally caught 4 guys and a hightop van. They would just roll around looking and scoping out the bikes left outside close to the street -- then come back in the middle of the night and back right up to it, jump out, load it up and haul ass. Buddy of mine lost his TL1000 that way and the police can't do much for ya after the fact - you would have to get it on camera or actually stop the theft and hold them at gunpoint until the police arrive to get anywhere with it. Guess the best measure would be to tuck a landmine under each tire!! I've got mine locked up at all times when it's home........and if anyone tries breaking into the garage - I'll fly at them with a K-bar in each hand going for the throat........f*cking hate theives!!!!!

AR15, glock whatever is all useless because they will jack you when you're not around. Whether its at night when you're sleeping or while you're in the store etc, you know you you're not going to be ready for it when the time comes. That's why i got full coverage insurance for.
