tank pads

So, I'm a very proud new owner of a 2008 ZX14 Special Edition...this bike is awesome!!! Problem I'm having is that I need/like using a tank bag (to carry stuff in). Well, my magnetic tank bag has already scratched the hell out of my tank! I need to get some tank pads, badly! Who is reputable?

I have one that uses your fuel cap and never touches the tank. I love it as it is easy and doesn't touch the tank at all.

If you want some first hand photos I can take and post some tomorrow.

I had the large one on my bmw but sold it, it was just too large. Great idea though, I might try the small one for the zx, I'm using a magnetic one now, so far it's been on the north side of 170 without moving, but there's some marks from it. The paint on these has to be the softest paint on any bike I ever owned.

Check out Kriega products...high quality, waterproof, and versatile. They are not magnetic but rather strap to the bike.

I had the Manta tank bag on my Yamaha when I was street riding it, and it did the same thing -- So, I got some wide double-sided tape and covered the whole bottom of it but didn't remove the opposite sides wrap from the tape so it wouldn't stick to the paint but still allowed it to magnetically stay on the tank -- worked just fine and no more scratches.

I been using my same old Cortec tank bag for 2 years and it hasn't put a scratch on any of the 4 bikes Ive owned. It has a nice soft thick neoprene type backing and strong magnets. The key to it is keep the bottom clean and free of dirt. And get in the habit of cleaning the tank surface before putting the tank bag on. I have zero scuffs or scratches on any of my bike tanks because of the tank bag, its more off my coarse leather jacket then the bag. You can always have the tank top clear bra'ed by Starsheild or 3M.
