ZX14 BACK IN MY HOUSE

It's been sooooo long since i have been here...Some of you may know i had to part with my 2006 ZX14 back in 2008. Since then it has proven to be the only bike that i sold that i always regretted, and have had what i call a "ZX14 dark cloud hanging over my head". The ZRX i had last year was an attempt to give my Busa a rest and fill in the ZX's shoes. Well, that last part was an impossible task. The day i sold the ZRX i was on Kawi's website lookin at the 2010 14's, but this years colors just didn't do it for me.

Bout 2 months ago i was down at the old Fudds in So. Mia and saw the 2009 special edition ZX14, which i had not seen before. Talk about getting bit by the bug!

Well, Mickey and i traveled to Kissimmee yeasterday and picked up this skoot...

I have now rid myself of that dark cloud and moved into the sun. This is gonna be my cruiser, as the Busa is coming down for a "serious horsepower re-freshening"!! The Busa is tired and loooong overdue for a return to it's previous glory days.!

Welcome back!!! I have the same color scheme and love it, I think it is a toss up between it and the 09 green for best color over all.

Congrets on the your new ride. Your color scheme is the only one I would trade my 07 black color scheme for. Well, that one and the black monster edition.

I like the paint scheme, but I think it would look much nicer without the stickers...IMO...I'd remove them.

THANX ALL...the 14 is gonna remain stock cept for grips, pegs, double bubble shield shield, stuff to make it more comfy. It's gonna be my "stocker" and i just wanna do tires/oil/filter/ etc. I already had been their/done that with my "06 14, pipe/pc/lots of titanium/c/f wheels, etc., so i'm gonna spend my time and $$ upgrading my Busa. That 14 started life at 156 H.P. on my dyno and ended up at 173.Here's a pic of the old 14...

My Busa story...i had a bad crash on my ZX9 back in March 2000. I locked up the front wheel entering a corner on a little 7/10 mile track we had down in Homestead. I basically did a belly flop right onto the asphalt @ 50 mph or so, knocked the wind outa me for ,well, too long. Little did i know i also had internal injuries. My friends got me back home and called my 2 brothers to come and keep an eye on me as i wasn't feelin too well. They came, got me outa bed and into the kitchen for a drink. At some point i started going into shock, as the world turned into a tiny dot of light. I was shaking and convulsing, and it just felt aweful. When i came to they were calling 911.

On the ride to the hospital the paramedic could not find a vein to insert an i.v. as my b.p. was 90 over 60. A sonigram at the hospital determined i had fluid in my abdomen, so off to the o.r they skooted me.

When i came to after the surgery i had a 12" incision from my breastbone to my groin with 43 staples...looked like i had a zipper!! The surgeon told me i had SPLATTERED my spleen, it came out in pieces, he had never seen one that bad where someone had also LIVED!! I later found out that with a ruptered spleen you can bleed out internally and die in 20 minutes or so. From the time i crashed to when i was operated on almos 7 hours had elapsed!! Obviously it was not my time to go, my God had other plans for me, which in the last 2 years i have found out what they were.

Anyways, i had loved the colors of the Y2K Busa so bout 2 months after my crash i got
my Busa as a "Glad To Be Alive" present, and i will never part with it.

It has turned into a labor of love as you can imagine, and since it has all the go-fast goodies already on it, it's coming down for a re-fresher. It has 70,000 miles on it and 65,000 miles on the 1363 Wiseco's. It ain't gonna stay a 1363!! Pic of the Busa...

I'm prolly gonna use the 14 for commuting as it gets better mileage than my Tundra!!

I have bout 354 miles on it as of this mornin. It is cool to feel an engine go thru it's changes and phases during break-in. I am a firm believer in proper break-in, and i add into Kawi's recommendation with some of my techniques. At first the skoot was very lazy and buzzy. Especially taking off from a stop, there is a lag, still there now, but not as bad. My seat-of-
the-pants feel is that it is a bit lean in that area. Put the double bubble on it yesterday so the wind blast is reduced, and with the installation of my touring grips i now have a better feel for the bars. Pro-Tek footpegs should be in today, helps to lower my feetsies about 3/4" to relax my legs a bit.
A customer was looking at my tires yesterday, there is only bout 1/2" chicken strips on the back (yesterday it had bout 225 miles on it), he was amazed as his CBR1000 had almost 1" strips!!
I am re-gelling with this 14, i forgot how different the seating position was from my Busa, so i am a bit creeky. Last nites ride was good as i started to "become one" with it. The Busa will be down for a few months so the 14 is gonna get some miles on it.
As on my 2006 the suspension is not right, so when i get bout 1000 miles on it and the suspension has loosened up we will do our stage 1 suspension set-up. I really look forward to that as the improvements doing this are very noticeable and makes riding that more enjoyable.

Stage 1 consists of sag and dampening adjustments, i may raise the tubes 10 mm like i did on the 06 to improve turn-in.

Insulate the tilt sensor? Please explain...i had no problems on my 06 and i put about 125 mles on the skoot last nite with the double shield screen.

Very sharp bike. Love the 09 SE in Orange. And......that busa is fugly!

The Pro-Tek pegs: I'm looking for lowered pegs also, but from what I can see on the Pro-Tek website do not mention or appear to lower the foot position. Please explain.

Cheers!

It is mounted on the right side behind the fairing. It has a ball in it that cuts off the fuel pump off if the bike falls over. It is quiet when the bike is new.but it will start to rattle after a while. It will become anoying when you hit a bump and hear it rattle. I put faom tape around mine and added rubber washers. I can't remember who,but someone here put oil in it with good results. Hope that helps.

I knew where it was cuz Kawi had a recall in 2006 due to the mounting screws for the tos not being tightened properly at the factory. I checked these when i replaced the shield. I didn't have the noise issue with the 06, so i'll be checking for the noise.
