Worst shifting bike I have ever owned
Surely something is wrong, I dread shifting this thing. First 3 gears are the worst, clunking like the chain has a foot of slack. Very solid banging. WTF? I have the chain at the minimum adjustment. Just put in Motul oil hoping for a change. No diff. Would a Quick shifter help?

IMo my 2 14s where the wost shifting bikes I have owned as well but the trannys are built solid and you will not have any issues from it. my main problem was going from N to 1st. I learned to do it with the bike not running. everyone that ever rode my 14 though I had a tranny problem. so just get used to it and it will not hurt anything.

My Red shifts like butter. Can't even hear or feel the 1-2 shifts anymore.
My dads Blue clunks 1-2-3. I dunno

Sometimes bad shifting is indicative of a bad or soon to be bad clutch. Plates not separating, indents on hubs, good stuff like that.

Surely something is wrong and I've said over and over, this is a field fix the factory has no clue about. Mine shifts like no other. This hack needs to be upgraded/improved by the electronics team in Japan, not some round eye in corporate North America looking over my bike. I'd be embarrASSed/shamed/shunned/hair wee care pee I don't give a shit, really. They'll figure it out soon enough.
Say I have zero shifting problems with a loose chain just a touch more slack than max [book] slack. Try that. Yeah, I wish you could ride mine and you'd change your tune. I've never felt a smoother shifting bike than they've put out right here on the 14... I just tuned a trans is all.

Well one of my first post on this board was back in 2006 when I first got my 14 home and I asked if anyone else ever had as poorly shifting bike as mine cause I would have sworn something was wrong with it. then I had lots of feed back stateing that's the way most of them are in it would not hurt anything. I made over 1000 runs between the 2 14s with no issues. just gotta get use to everyone turning around and looking at you when you drop her in first gear and it sounds like the tranny just fell outLOL

is your chain adjusted properly? whats your idle speed. my Neutral to First gear is pretty rough too. after that its all good. loose chain it can be a bit more severe. also low idle speed can cause this

I have no problems as being stated here, but between my 636, 2 of my brothers r1 and a zx10 the 14 shifts the worst IMHO.

I for one don't think it's a problem, just the nature of the bike.

......... and both my 06 and my 08 were/are the best WHEN RIDDEN AS THEY WERE DESIGNED TO BE.
The exception: When I was following my wife around on her Ninja 250 and shifting at low rpms, the shifts were "clunky" - even horrible.
Neutral to first is a whole separate issue. Many Kaws do that, including my ZRX. It's just the clutch not releasing quickly. Pull in the clutch and hold it for 10 seconds, then go from neutral to first and see what happens - assuming that the idle speed is where it should be.

I can live with the neutral to first Atomic Bang. Idle at 1100 RPM. It's just the rest...... Headed to the garage to increase the slack "A touch more than max [book]"

One other thing. If it is "overfilled" with oil, even at the top mark, it may not shift as well.
I have no proof of this, except hearing this from others, and personally experiencing it once.

the 14 clunks a little bit but the shift is a very positive shift. I'm so used to it now that when i get on other bikes they feel like they're not in gear all the way when i shift lol. What you're saying sounds like a loose chain to me though.
