Well, I hope the cop let him off! I also don't think the cop should be sitting there. That is almsot like entrapment! ;-)

lol maybe because if he wasn't there he wouldn't have done that. Me on the other hand have ignored their presence and i have a roster of tickets to show that lol. 4 tickets in 3 month period, yet not one has hit my driving record. Officer Stout & Gonzales already know my name up in Angeles Crest lol.

Wow...the age old debate. Don't speed and you won't get pulled over, right. But everyone knows it's human nature to hit the brakes when you see a cop even if you are not speeding. Whether or not it was an amateur mistake to grab a fist full of brake or not this would not have happened had the cop been down the road. This is the kind of shit the police pull that creates an us vs them situation. A zealot is one who doubles his efforts while loosing sight of the goal. The goal is to protect the public, correct? This just adds fuel to the fire that it is really all about writting tickets and collecting money.

Besides being a contributing factor in the bike going down...there is this...
Let's say the guy didn't grab all that brake and kept going. What's the cop going to do? Haul ass after him doing a uturn cutting across the oncoming traffic lane and entering the other lane directly in front of a blind corner. Totally irresponsible on the part of the officer. Just bad police behavior all round.

So the cop just sitting there with no lights on eating his donut is to blame for a speeding rider who panic braked at the site of the patrol car? Nonsense. If he was standing in the road in the biker's path, yes. Everyone knows the traffic laws and if you break the law, law enforcement takes your money. If it were not for cops writing tickets people would drive and ride a lot more stupidly than they already do.
You guys would probably blame the cop if he were driving on the road when that rider panic braked. What would you say then? He should have been at the donut shop??

Is it really human nature to hit the brakes when you see a cop? Usually on the street if i am riding and i see one i just back of the throttle a little (if i am speeding), i don't use the brakes, that just makes you way too obvious you're trying to hide something.
Back in the days, when i see a cop while speeding in a car, i used to pull on the ebrake lightly to slow down without having him see me hit the brakes.

No one is debating he panic braked. And no one is debating you speed you roll the dice. But how do we know he was even speeding? I don't know the speed limit on mulholland road but the bike slides all of what 12 feet? He couldn't have been going very fast. IMO seeing a car (cop or not) in the opposite lane one's reaction would have been different. The whole point is why sit right there? You can't do radar on a curve, it's not accurate...laser I doubt it. Could it be an "I'll scare those punk bikers" thing? Just not the correct thing to do.

The CHP up in Angeles Crest do the same thing every time, except me being up there so much you start to see a pattern on where they tend to sit. What i did notice is they do not hang up there on weekdays, they seem to be there on weekends only so i just learned to go up there on a weekday instead. Best time anyways, hardly any cars or traffic up that way on a weekday. But anyways you know that cop wasn't just sitting there having his donuts he meant to sit there on the curve waiting for someone to come drag knee and speed by. I got my very first riding ticket exactly that way in Angeles Crest Hwy, i got clocked doing 95 in a 55 zone around one of the long sweepers on my 750. The only difference is, the CHP in the canyons here are on Bimmer K1300 bikes so its kinda of tough to outrun em, if it was a squad car like that id be like catch me if you can. :P

You can clearly see how his or her tire is turned there going after him either way. So somebody probably complained and there just waiting for him.

Why SHOULDN'T they sit there? If a person freaks out that bad when they see a vehicle of authority, they shouldn't be driving or riding! Driving/Riding is a PRIVILEGE not a right! If you can't do it responsibly then your privileges should be revoked(IMHO).
