To much gear??

I'm having serious traction issues, I'm sitting around 6 over, weigh 198, running a Michelin pilot 2 on rear, I kno I kno, I'm switching to a u soft soon to see if it helps. Also I'm -1 +2 on sprockets and it blows tire away through first and 2nd. Basically still ride alot of street since they shut down Memphis Motorsports park so I was trying to steer clear of the usoft but I can't hook for nothing. I was thinking of going 17-43 and see if that helped. I do race on the street now, and cannot hook launching. Any advice?

streets suck for traction, especially on an extended bike. Take it to the track if you want traction.

also, suspenstion settings and tire pressure are MUCH more critical to hooking on shitty surfaces...

Second, a Michelin power race or power one hooks ten times better than a shinko u/s.

Street racing is no good I agree. But they took our track Memphis Motorsports from us. What do they expect all the draggers to do. Second if this tire hooks so well why am I blowing it off through second? Even if I heat it up it still spins.

Not to jack your thread but has anyone tried the Metzler Dragtec Drag Racing Rear Tire? It's pricey, just curious.

Because therenis no weight over the rear tire and your bike is to long to hook on the street. If you put it back to SWB it won't spin.

Try to master the "snap and slide " throttle and clutch method, you are probably throwin the clutch away too fast causing the bike to light the tire up,practice, practice, practice. Watch out when the tire hooks up,whatever tire you decide to get,the new Michelin,Metzeler or a Shinko they are all great tires its a different bike when you get some traction.

you said you have a pilot 2ct, right? That's not the same as a power one.
Street racing is nothing like racing Attlee the track. Surfaces are nothing alike.

Yea I have the pilot 2ct. And yes I know the surfaces are nothing alike. I HAD a nhra track 10 mins from the house so I'm not green to racing on the track. They closed it down so now naturally alot of us are now racing on backroads etc away from traffic. I just was wanting insight on a tire or possible gearing change that would help me to hook better on the street. Is there a better hooking tire for the street that I could look into. I was thinking about getting a usoft. That's what I ran at the track

I had that same problem, I went out and bought a usoft, aired it down to around 22psi and now i have hardly any problems hooking on the street. Thats the only tire i've found that will hook fairly well for the price. Keep in mind though that some road surfaces aren't going to hook as well as others.

you won't hook with any tire when you're extended and on the street. Sad fact of life. I've got a lot of gear (16/46) but even with a U-soft and 12psi It'll boil it off on the freeway.

The fastest guys in AMA run the Michelin? If we are comparing the old 003 U soft to the power one its not even close. The Shinko is a good tire for what it is and what it is........is cheap and heavy and hooks decent thats why it is so popular. The Power One is much lighter, hooks better and is a better tire.

michelin don't win much at road racing ... your running a road race tire thats a loser .. but by all means go ahead and tell me how bad the dunlops are ...

if you want to look at a circuit and use what tire they are using . you can't simply because tire companys are sponsors . and each company has a circuit under their belt to promote their product ..

personally i think 1 tire as good as the next at these friday nite drag strip track events..

BS! Check out the pro street bikes and see how many have a usoft on them. By any means seis I say the shinko was a bad tire, but a power one will hook anyday over a usoft. It cost almost twice as much, but like Chad said that's why it's so popular.

The shinko would haze the tire one out of 5 or 6 passes at 12 psi. I've ran the Michelin since November and to the best of my memory it's spun once, maybe twice.
