zx10 fender mph...

did anyone ever figure out for sure if there is a loss in ET/MPH through the 1/8th and 1/4 with the zx10 fender? Any updated info on that subject would be appreciated.

I might guess that it's hard to be that consistant - change a fender - and then try and
gauge any difference.

Bob

(fwiw) the 10 fender weighs less -

it seems logical to me that it would hurt. The reason it fools better is because you get more air hitting the radiator. The front fender on the 14 is quite large but I am positive that a ton of R&D went into the development of the front fender design. If they know of the over heating problem why in the newer models would they not have reduced the fender size? Food for thought. Personally I would not change fender design as much as you got to the track.

i remember guys were losing as much as 5+ mph on the big end (top speed) with the zx-10 fender on the 14. it lets more air to the radiator but increases drag. probably wouldn't matter in the 1/8, more in the 1/4 or beyond....

So you're saying that switching to a zx10 fender creates 20ish hp of drag?

According to the ama dragbike calculator, it takes 173 rwhp to get a 700lb bike and rider combo to 147 mph. To get 5 more mph, the calculator says it would take 191 rwhp. That's an 18 hp difference to get an additional 5 mph. I MIGHT believe that the stock bike will do 5 mph higher top speed, but nowhere near that much in the 1/4. Prove me wrong.

looking back at articles lyle said a couple mph on top, it may not be a concern for anything but land speed. it will not make your bike faster for sure thats is what i am saying do what you want. i never said 5mph in the 1/4, i said it would matter more in the 1/4 than the 1/8 and the most in top end wot.

Hmmm....really...you don't say?

Regarding the fender, I really wouldn't worry about it in the 1/8 or 1/4 mile. In fact, if you are hot-lapping the bike, the additional cooling may be of benefit. I am going to try out my 1098 fender this season, at the dragstrip. I might not notice .2 mph, but I am consistent enough to notice .5 or more average.

How accurate is that calculator? I can get my 750 165mph easily but it has no where near 173rwhp. It made 126rwhp the last dyno tune. My bike wet weight is about 435lbs and i weigh 230, so its close to what you mentioned.

They are talking about the quarter mile. I don't think your 750 will pull 165 in the quarter.

Pat was running his bike with NO fender bracket racing, and didn't notice any difference than with a zx14 fender.... he is the most accurate all motor (stock internals too) guy running a 14.

if no fender made no diff, then the zx10 fender won't matter.

As far as Kawi engineering, they ,made that fender for aerodynamics plain and simple and it would make a diff at the very extreme top end.

Unless I am reading wrong, Shane, Gillberj and Big dtd are all correct....
man are any of you guys riding yet this year?

I thought Pat was supposed to be testing the zx10 fender, but I never heard any results. Has there been any feedback?

If your wondering if a zx10 fender is more or less aerodinamic, try going 80 mph and place your hand in front of you. Do you need more throttle to keep at 80? No! A small fender change probably would not do much until topping over 140+

For those who think the fender change will help or hurt engine temp are also on crack. If you have a temp problem on the freeway, you have a problem. The smaller fender is not going to make a difference at slow speeds where some have a problem on hot days.

Im putting the zx10 fender on because IT LOOKS COOL! And it has a smaller carbon foot print!!!

Seriously a fender makes you have a smaller carbon foot print?...wtf. You are the one that is on crack. Look that up and see why you look like a dumb ass right about now.
