Wow.... that was a pretty one sided article. What's the chip on their shoulder? There was nothing about only a very small percentage of cyclists are ruining it for the larger portion.

It's not me that's racing around the streets. It's all the 16 to 20 something idiots that are the problem. Once they see one of their budies go down and get killed they may finally grow up.

Once again bikers are the easy target. They're just pissed because it's so easy to outrun cops with these bikes...and thus avoid paying a ticket...and we know it's all about the money!

No it's not just about the money. If you've ever seen some of these young, dumb idoits on the road down here you would understand. While I don't agree with all the new laws I understand fully why they were put in place. I can't tell you how many times coming home from the track that I've seen guys racing or riding wheelie's across the bridge at 80mph +. I refuse to go on groups rides any more with people I don't know. Last 1 I was on over a year ago, 1 of them got killed. Hell they were doing 80+ through residential area's. On the open roads serveral hit the speed limiters at 186. One of the speed racers at the front of the pack stood it up in a hard right turn and went head on into an incoming truck. Dead right there. I had plenty to think about as I rode back home to my wife that day.

but the media is one-sided. all sportbikers don't ride like that click young segment.
its a free jab, and an excuse to raise fines higher and higher for us all

The media has said the same thing about the import cars street racing which has also lead to increased fines. It's always the few bad apples that screws it for the rest of us. I'm not too worried. 15+ years since my last ticket. I've learned to slow down since then.

hell ive learned so slow down too n im only 21, stopped being fun when you figure out how bad you can get hurt, and when its only 20 bucks for test and tune on a friday night you can grab your buddies and tell em to put up or shut up, closed coarse and strips are the way to go

between those tracks anhd the roadracing courses available for track days, not much need for the street nonsense in FL

Ya I see young dumb idiots all the time but I also see old decrepit grey hairs with zero driving apptitude stopping for green lights and running red lights because they can't see or can't be bothered to turn their arthritic heads. It's just they have more money to pay the lobbyists. Can you imagine a driving law that targets the elderly with as much zeal as these laws attack bikers...shit would hit the fan for sure.
It's not the conditions it's the decisions...

Exactly! But yet we can't get enough bikes to the drag strip at Sunshine Speedway to have an all bike class. The bikes run against the cars on bracket night because so few show up.

i went out last night to bike night. it was a sparse croud due to the wind and cold. most of us cold weather florida guys were there. later i ended up at wild willy's where i met some other local bikers. we stayed for a bit and when i left a young guy (20's) on a gsxr 1000 departed at the same time. he seemed a little tipsy and i warned him while we were getting on the bikes to take it slow and easy on the way home. we left and headed north on belcher. i always ride conservatively on bike night because the law is out looking for screwups. he stayed with me for abour 3 blocks in the conservative mode and then took off like a banshee! i saw him disappear into the distance at wide open throttle. by the time i got to the next major intersection at eastbay, i couldn't tell where he had gone. then i saw three largo police cars pass me and go right on east bay. he must have gone right....

We were down at Sunshine watching Jessie run last night. It was at least 10* colder there then at my house up here in NPR.

I will bravely say that I've only had to outrun the law once -- most of the time i'm fairly law abiding.........but one morning I was running late for work and in the berm the bright white cruiser had just caught my eye as I crested a hill........the rule is, if you see them first - twist it!! You'll go by so fast that they'll barely be able to identify what color your bike is and by the time they pull out and get up to speed -- you're 3 exits up and already off the ramp........but that's been some years and now a days I don't push my luck like that

with 16/46 gearing I'd be hard pressed to run over the speed limit at freeway speeds lol. Plus on a long bike all you're going to do is spin the tire anyway so why bother. I guess that's why my U-soft at 63" wheelbase has lasted 1000 miles longer than my shinko soft did at stock wheelbase and is still not even close to the wear bars.
aaaah fuck... i didn't even notice that my work computer is logged in under my old name. Sorry fish.

Florida police ( along with most any states police ) are like a pile of women -- they want to control everything, all the time.........and when they can't control something, they involve everyone around them to help in getting control. I think they should keep ticket prices where they stand, and hire / train select individuals to ride big sport bikes to try and keep up with America's stupid youth -- have it filmed with a helicopter and put it on national TV every week.........kind of like "Cops" but for bikers only...........now there's a show that would bring up ratings!
