zx10 wheel conversion to a zx14
OK I got my wheels in today and we have started teh project of putting 10 wheels on my 14.
Here is what I have so far --
I am going to run a 06-07 zx10 wheels.
The front was easy -- pretty much a direct swap -- zx14 axle, spacers, and brake rotor.
The front setup with 1 brake rotor no spacers or axle.
ZX14 - 14.8 lbs
ZX10--12.8 lbs
The rear wheel is a bit tougher -- so far we have the bearings converted but are working on crush tube and other spacers -- then we will tackle the brakes.
The wheels with rotor and sprocket carrier -- no sprocket no outside spacers
ZX14 22lbs
ZX10 17lbs
So total loss so far is 7lbs.
we will be building a kit to do this conversion so stay tuned.

I would be more interested in the rear swap. Great to see someone making this kit!! Have any idea how much it's gonna run?

not sure on price -- a lot will depend on the brake setup -- the rear 10 rotor is much smaller than the 14. WE should have all spacers built for the wheel in the morning and then we will start with the brake tomorrow.

The 08-09 zx10r front wheel is even lighter according to the folks on the 10r forums.
The one I was running was over 3 lbs. lighter than the 14 front but I did have different brand tires mounted and I'm sure that affected the measurements.
The only issue with the rear would be alignment, both wheels and sprockets/ chain.

yeah and so far it has been cheap -- but i think we are going to have to have a new brake hanger made -- the 14 rotor is much larger -- i need to get a 10 hanger to see it so that may be the hold up tomorrow. -- going to ebay now!

Here's the front wheel I had before the BST, direct bolt on retaining the use of the 14 spacers, brake rotors and all. Steering was improved noticeably

Nice while it lasted ......All the zx10 guys now know we want them zx10 wheels .. The Ebay prices have shot up double and tripple ... Hell it's going to be cheaper to buy some cool after market rims that weight less than the zx10 rims ..

I bought my front new in 08 for $350.
Only gsxr and R6 parts are somewhat cheap and in abundance around the forums and eBay.

Ya but give it a couple weeks of them not selling there wheels and the prices will come back down. unless someones in a hurry and willing to pay it.

OK here is where I am going to need your guys input
we have the bearings and spacers all worked out on the rear -- now the brake --- not a big deal if I were just making one but I am trying put a kit together to sell so ---
I am trying to utilize as much stuff that you would have --- basically you only need to buy the wheels -- front zx14 rotors swap so you just need a bare zx10 front --- rear the rotor for the 10 has to be used so you need a complete rear wheel minus sprocket.
Now for my option:
1. -- I can custom build a brake hanger -- have it CNCd and then anodized -- it would come with the kit ready to go --- it would probably add $75 more dollars at least.
2. I can do a kit where you send me your zx14 brake hanger and we modify it and send it back -- if we do this i will have a few on hand to do an exchange with them. this would save probably $50 off the cost of the kit.
Either way is fine -- option 2 would be the easiest -- just didnt know if you guys would want them modified or a complete different unit.
Pricing I am thinking I can do all bearings, spacers, crush tube, and modified hanger for $110 shipped.
If we go with option 1 and I have a custom hanger built you will be looking at $185 or more.

I wouldn't be a guy to do this kit. The stock wheels are fine to me but giving the buyer both options seems like the best way to go.

kit #2 doesn't really seem like it would be the way to go because a lot of people would probably beto run the wanting to keep the ability to run their zx14 wheels as well. I know that i wouldn't want to lose my ability to run my 14 wheels on the street.

OK -- thanks for the input -- what do the others think -- i want to hear from you guys so i can build something that you would want.
What if i bought a bunch of the stock hangers and modified them -- that way you get one with the kit and can keep your stock one with your wheels?

Ok i think this is what I can do --
I will provide the zx14 modified brake hanger and all spacers and hardware to do the swap -- I think i can do it this way for
$165 Shipped to your door.
how does that sound?
I will have pics of wheel installed in a 14 swingarm mid week. --- we are doing the brake hanger mod monday --- that is the last thing we need to do -- we got he inner spacer between the carrier and wheel built today -- they don' have bearing to get the stock one to fit so we just have a spacer--kinda a pain to install but it works.

Great Idea put a lighter wheel , that was built for a lighter bike, on a bike that weigh's more, has more power ??
what's wrong with finding lighter stronger wheel's
those zx10 thing's look kinda spindlay next to the stocker's
potholes exist if ya ride in the real world , not swept tracks.
