Question on why power comes from header

I'm on another zx site and a guy is gutting a stock header and putting slip ons on. I told him that power is made at the header but the guys on the site believe the stock header without cats will make some power. I have no reason as to why it wouldn't produce power other than I read on here that the power is made at the header. They also believe slip ons can produce power since they have cats in them. What's fact?

Stock header is tuned for a power band that makes the bike work best for a all around type riding ..There are trade offs with the stock header .. They give up some top end for low and mid ranges .. I will work better with a cat removed and slip ons but it will not be the best for top end power or Max HP ...Tube size , collector size all come it to play here .. So yes the power is made in the header or i should say the power band is made in the header ..

So basically the header is shaped to make more low end,or top end, etc..
Then regardless of header the motor is going to make a certain amount of power but the header just forms a certain powerband for the motor? Am I getting it right?

Yes you will get a different powerband from different headers, but an aftermarket header WILL make more power than the stock header because the stock header is very restrictive.

Yes that is the picture ..Also keep in mine that this bikes have to pass EPA specs as well as sound levels .. That puts a limit on the HP they can make.. People like brock have no real limits while building a pipe where as the factory has many ...

Check out the taper of the tube's espicialy , Brock's when the exaust gas exit's out the port it expand's with the taper from small to large it moves even faster , alowing a low pressure pulse back at the exuast port when the valve open's , tend's to pull out more exaust , allow for more intake flow, but at the expense of , pulling out some intake charge at low RPM, from mid to high rpm they work great, mixture velocity through the motor is very important for an even power band.
That's why the servo motor exaust valve on some 1000cc bike's , stuff's up the exaust slows down the flow keeping some charge in the chamber, saveing some low end power, alowing for high end power tune to work in the street enviroment better. my 2 cent's
