possibly buying a zx14 tomorrow...

possibly buying an 06 zx14 tomorrow with 15K on the odo. owner is asking 6500 but i'm fairly certain i can get it for 6K.

bike has many tastefull mods including:

gpr stabilizer
front/rear sprocket with speedo healer
rear fender delete
bar risers

and a few other goodies. anything i should look for? is the price decent? btw the color is red...

owner stated that valves "may" need to be adjusted. is that true at 15K and if so how much is this to get done or is it something i could do at home?

Thanks,
Abe

The first year of the ZX-14 was 2006, so I would make sure it is not a ZX-12R, to start.

That's too much for a zx14 with 15000 miles. If it even is a 14. I got my 07 with 4800 miles for 6 grand. It needed a new fairing which I got for $200 off eBay. Then put new tires on it for 300. From some of the other zx14 forums I think I even paid too much.

I'd say 5500 if tires and brakes are in good condition.

$5,500... Maybe $5,000. That's a lot of miles. That dosent mean it's hurt, just numbers

I agree about the $6500.00 I think a guy on here was selling his 06 that had everything on it for $6500 with fewer miles. Offer $5000 if he says no ask what he will take and then walk away. He will take it.

Not a bad idea to check the valves at 15k .. some have checked them and found them to be right on factory specs and other have found a few valves to tight ... It's a toss up ...Some have checked them at 25k and been right on the money .... You just never know unless you check .. It's not bad to check them ( at least for me ) but if you have to change any shims it can be a pain in the ass ... You have to pull the cams to swap shims .. 6k is a good price and even if you had to pay someone to run the valves it's still a good price ..

I have no clue what a valve service would cost .. Call a local dealer and ask before you make your offer on the bike .Use that cost to bring down the price of the zx14 ... FZ1 Vs a zx14 .. Well lets just say bye bye FZ1 ..

I paid $6995 for my 08 with 3300 miles on it last month. So I would say that is a lot, but the mileage is only a lot depending on where you live. Here in SoCal, you can ride the bike every day so you tend to rack up a lot more miles than say, Maine.

Im thinking about a 2010 Connie or BMW K1300S

make an offer on my 07 pearl white 14 with some nice mods!! 6450 miles. Very well taken care of and I got all the original parts in the celler, and its got the "good times" extended warranty plan until 2012. and thats fully transferable. What do you guys think its worth in this economy?

Kelly blue book 0n 07 ZX14 $5400 low book , no matter what any expensive , gadget's or mod's , makes an 07 only worth low book , in the real world , if a person had a 07 ZX14 say 7000 mile's perfect shape not changed from stock !! It would be worth $7300 !
I would craig list mine at $6100 take $5800 month later $5900 take $5500
Looking for a bike NADA on tabed brower's real easy to see where people want to much for used toy's
$6995 on a 08 is good deal book's $1200 higher or more , you could ride one a year , sell it if you don't like it and not lose.

Congrats mamba. That means I can hang on to mine for a while. I really love the 14 and just modded it. Sort of was thinking of selling in Summer. I would like to hang on to it but I want a ZX-10.
