need jis screwdriver for flies

I finally removed the fly that had a stripped out screw with some 90 degree needle nose pliers. Well Im not taking anymore chances. I was told to get a jis screwdriver and thats what I'm doing. I googled jis screwdriver and they are all small ones. I want a long one with a hardened tip. Where did you get yours. Thanks.

I steal mine from the japanese optical instruments I work on, they're nice enough to include them in the box. I know it doesn't help but....

you could also try to use some valve grinding compound on the end of the screwdriver to help grip the screw to get it out

Heat the screw driver tip up and hold it on snug for several seconds to melt the locktite.
I just used a new good quality phillips (cant remember the size) , the heat and had no trouble!

Thanks for the help. I found a set of four on eBay. They have the skinny handles but if I need to I will wrap some electrical tape around it for more gripping area.

I just removed mine today....really all ya need is a new #2 phillips and a soldering iron I put the tip of the hot iron on the screw heads for about 20 seconds (you can hear it sizzle), then moderate pressure on the screwdriver and tighten first a bit and then back out the screw. You can feel it if it's trying to strip or back out. Just take your time.

Well last night I was fed up with the screws. I heated a screwdriver up with a propane torch till it was glowing red. I set it on the screw for about 45 sec then I used the long 90 degree needle nose pliers I picked up from o'reilly auto parts to break the screw loose. Then I backed it out with the screw driver. I didn't bother unhooking the gas tank. I propped it up with a 2X4 and that worked great. I am so glad that's done! I have the flies out and my power commander 3 hooked up. I plan on installing my Brocks alienhead exhaust tomorrow and installing the custom map I got from Brocks!!!! Hell Yeah!!!!!

I got my JIS screwdrivers from here: http://www.ikaswebshop.com/jisphilips.html

Different shaft lengths available - to remove the flies you need at least a 6" shaft (don't we all she cried!)

The JIS type screwdriver's would be best seeing how they fit right , but through the year's have found that the Klien brand driver's have the best tip for small screw's, use them all the time , computer's to motorcycle's car's ect. they are made for electrical work,it's all I will use, they dont wear out !

Snap-On and Mac have some good quality drivers, but a bit more $$ If they are as good
as some old Kllein wire cutters/plyer that my Dad (90) had in his tool box, Good Tools.

I have used Phillips on JIS for 35 years on old jap bikes and cagers, just knew when to
not over tighten, it's a feel that you have to break a few to understand :-)

After seeing the prints and read about the two different drives I wish all my drives were JIS but costs just too much to try to find Snap-On Black handle drives to match the set I have. Not even sure if if they make JIS.

Snap on has driver's with hardened tip's , both Snapon and Kline tool's, top of the line!!
the price reflect's it ! when you work tool's daily, quilty means everything , once a phillps, get's slightly worn, better throw it out , just ruin's screw's.
noticed somone here started a thread on JIS sizes, I will follow their advise and have a set before I pull the bike apart, the screw head's have smaller slot's , nice to know you can get those fly screw's out with vise grips, if ya strip one , can't wait to get in their !
