Best bang for the buck.. stroker , heads, or turbo ?

so what is the best use of your money in building motor on a budget ? It would be interesting to see what makes the most hp per dollar.

I went the stroker route because i melted the cylinders and pistons with too much spray at Maxton. Running nitrous fo 20 seconds is alot tougher than 4 or 5 seconds at a dragstrip. The stroker kit was $1700 bucks and the boring/plating was $500. I kept the stock heads and cams to keep the project on a budget. I will post up my hp gains later this week.

so post up your hp gains and dollars spent and see what makes the most hp/$$

reliability wise, I'd say that a turbo is probably the best bang for the buck. Isn't there a muzzy stage1 with like 20k on it running around here somewhere? When's the last me that you heard of a stroker going for that long.

that may be the best hp per dollar, but after a meltdown I am not too excited about doing that again

having the stroker is great ... alot of power , all the time . No bottles to fill , great first gear pulls .

And I went 202 mph naked at Loring without having to go over 9500 rpm... hard to tear up a motor at that rpm :-)

How far is sustained? 9 miles would not be a problem because you cover that distance in a heart beat. My low boost 14 has a heating problem, won't heat. Almost 36k miles now the turbo was installed at 9,500 . Not a single problem. Bearing load is the issue and proper oil for the Busa's that I have seen run. Still running the same oil return pump but you trade dead reliable for ultimate performance. Best time in full legal street trim is a slow 9.45 @ 150.6 mph at corrected altitude 5k feet. Wish I had Smokin14's 1/8 mile, he is awesome on the launch. More like a cannon shell.

Maintenance records are at Plaza Cycle. The mechanics aren't the best but adequate. Will it last forever? Never, the bearings will fail at some point.

Cost is $6k for the turbo, by far a stroker is the least expensive way to go. How reliable is a 4mm stroke, no idea. The stroker will add piston speed if you use it for daily riding and lower total hours of use. Turbo will add ring pressure when is use and result in the same outcome. How you ride it depends on the life span. Hp gains for the turbo depends on the boost, right now I am running 7 lbs boost with a complete stock motor at 250 rwhp. A slick and good track will make a big difference, power is pain for the engine, clutch and can take its tole.

I got my turbo kit and fuel system under 3,700 bucks, It will be able to make WAY more power than the motor will be able to handle, put rods and pistons and springs in and go for 400+ JUST MAKE SURE YOUR TUNE IS GOOD AND YOUR RUNNING GOOD GAS

If the track conditions will allow and hook up in the 1/8, times will be far better. Look up ZX-14 street bike at the drags on You Tube and see the problem first hand. Smoking14 would be through the 1/8 before we make the 330. Will not trade the street bike for a drag bike, will never trailer this machine to the strip. Street, drag bikes only need a license plate stuck somewhere to be street legal. Mind you folks, our street 14 turbo weighs 543 lbs wet with 2 gallons of fuel, 743 lbs total weight with rider and I'm not the rider at the strip. Gave that up 30 years ago.
