moving to Alabama
Well a few months ago I moved from phoenix to Michigan. well it got cold and started to snow. so now I'm leaving. Actually I got a great job in Fort Rucker Alabama. But I have never been to Alabama a day in my life. so is any one on here from Alabama or been there? Hows the riding? will I love it or hate it? I loved phoenix despite it being a blazing inferno in the summer. At least I can ride again. Assuming I can find some one to ship my bike to Alabama for me. Last time I used eagle one but I don't know if there truck would make it through my Arctic drive way

Its not gonna be perfect ,but the spring and fall in the mid-south is the bomh! Drag strips here open 1st weekend in feburary weather permitting. Some springs mean all 4 open some mean snow. Its a mixed bag,but great most of the time. You will learn to tune for no air in the dog days. You will learn that term and many others in the dirty south.

Fort Rucker is between the towns of dothan and enterprise. I like to race but I am nothing close to good at it. although with a longer riding season I will be hitting the track alot more. to date my 07 has 6000 miles on it. between deployments, work, and weather I just haven't been able to ride it much. So living down south is gonna be great! they do talk funny down there though

I live in Northport, We go to one of the tracks most every weekend. Montgomery Motorsports Park is a 1/4 mile and a lot of fun. You have Atmore down where you will be. Steele AL. is a 1/4 mile. You can ride alnog the gulf coast. I work for the Mercedes-Benz plant in Vance AL. Lot's of riding around. You have got to go to the Barber's motorcycle museum.

Ft. rucker is about 65 miles south of Montgomery which has a first class drag strip. They shot a "Pinks " episode there. Barbers is 80 miles north of Montgomery. The best riding in north Alabama, Mt. Cheaha is the highest point in Alabama. There are 2 sides to get to the top. One being very tight and twisty, the other being very very fast with a lot of high speed turns. You can actually get both wheels of the ground. Lotsa cool places everywhere to pull top speed. Roebling Road is 6-7 hours away, Road Atlanta about 3.5 hrs, Memphis is not far either, Jennings, you're only about 400 miles from Daytona. Don't foget about the Talladega Grand Prix course, 2 hours from you. I had ridden in the area for 30 years, even got chased buy the 5.0 Alabama troopers mustangs and the old AMX Javlin they had for only 1 year. BEWARE the DEER, very very high population, especially in the piney woods. U.S 231 that runs from Dothan to Montgomery is a good friend to the grim reaper. Be safe on that hwy. Lotsa of drunks coming back from Panama City have claimed a lot of lives.

cool I was mainly wondering if AL was flat like florida. I seriously thought I was gonna be moving to a place where the riding was gonna be lack luster, but know I am getting kind of excited. I never realized how much stuff was so close. And I will finally get to go to daytona for the first time!!

I have to agree with the comment about the deer. Don't be tempted by all the county roads that are nice and twisty unless you really know them. You will be amazed at what will pop out in front of you either daytime or night, ATVs, drunks, possums, etc. will all make the ride a nightmare if you are not careful plus there are few open spaces to go off road if you have to. Make sure you have plenty of look ahead when grabbing those higher gears! Alabama is more cruiser road friendly than crotch rocket. I lived there for eight years, moved to Vegas for two, and then recently moved back. I am in the Birmingham area and own a 14 and a Fat Boy.

You have Steadmans in Moulton AL. There's a guy up on 280 in Birmingham that's good. NLR is right around there too near Auburn, AL.
