Got a leak, what seal is needed?

Hey there gang,

Got a leak here, green in color, saw it for the first time after a hot ride. Only a tablespoon or so of fluid on the floor, but any leak = bad leak.

What seal do I need here?

Bike is under warranty, maybe I should just let the dealer do it. ??

Looks like the water pump cover seal. Either that or the radiator hose that connects to the front of that pump is loose. Pull the lower fairing and check the tightness of the hose and pump cover screws.
If that doesn't work then use the warranty

Yes check the overflow tubes for a hole or a crack. Maybe it's spitting on that area of the motor.

Good advice all around. Hoses all seem good so I'm gonna take it into shop and let the warranty pay the bill now.

Verdict revealed tomorrow.

Turns out it is indeed the cover seal to the water pump, not the inner o-ring. problem is you cant get justthe seals, you have to get the whole pump at roughly $200.00.

I'm 2 weeks outside of warranty on my 09, but they called and got authorization to cover it anyway. Nice goodwill gesture.

Just gotta wait for the new pump to come in. I also want to replace the anti-freeze with distilled water and Water Wetter.

So water wetter or engine Ice is better?

Wow I didn't know you can't get individual water pump parts for the 14!?
That sucks! Well at least they are going to take care of you.
This might be a good time to purchace the extended waranty.

I like water wetter

I know this is an older thread....
I have been looking for a leak on my Green 09 for a few days, I took the belly pan off last night to find coolant leaking from the water pump. Looks like it is just the seal between the two parts.
I noticed it leaking sunday morning before i was setting up to go on a little jaunt.

How long did it take them to order the parts and get you back on the road? My local shop opens today (they were closed Sunday & Monday) and i am afraid they wont have it done by this weekend. I have a charity ride that i have already pre-registered to go on and i really dont want to miss it.....

Thanks for your time..

Nice of the dealer to step up like that........not all dealers will do this - kudos to them!!

Oh shit........here we go again just kiddin'........not sure of the overall concensus, but different fella's like different stuff - IMO these are down to your choice and basically are dictated by what you do with the bike? Daily rider? Drag? LSR?

Patrick, it took about a week for my shop. I can't say it's the same for every. But the leak was so slow I'd say you could go on a ride and not have any problems.

Awesome...

I went ahead and took the bike into the shop today, I was told they would over-night the parts if they had to. They told me i would be back on the road by Thursday evening or Friday morning at the latest.. Hopefully they stick to their word... I noticed a bit more coolant than usual today when i got home so i figured i had better be safe than sorry. Since its under warranty and all.

Thanks for the heads up as well!
