hi new to zx14

Hi i am new here but not to bikes. I am looking for a zx14 and want to know what to look for in a used one, what are the best mods for the bike, and differences in the years. When i get one i plan on making it a weekend warrior at the track. Thanks all reply's welcome. I am located in Omaha,NE.

they are all good machines, very reliable, except the frame recall/ inspection for 06.
Even that, has been overrated , not nearly as many effected as expected. Nothing ;like 05-06 GSXR1000.

The 08-09 has a bit more power, even uncorked it seems.
A good reputable 4-1 pipe and good map will remove 30 lbs, and give ~20 more RWHP at redline.
The flies should be removed on all bikes, especially the 06-07. ~20 ft /lbs increase at 3500 rpm for 06-07

Stock rubber is POS in most opinions.
I prefer michelins, due to their profile corner much better. For drag racing pick your poison, shinko 003 usoft is the cheapest and then there is the MT , and the pilot race.
16-41 is fave of most guys for gears, 16-43 for the wheelie addicts, and 16-48 for the stretched strip queens.
Lowering the bike will alone be a dramatic difference in drag strip ability.

Brocks diaries are a great place to start for strip use.
Shane has a very comprehensive thread on his dragstrip build as well.
Lee is the dragstrip advocate and rewident fast guy, and wheelie would give him a very good run for the money if they weighed the same.

There is a ton of info, and pile of great resources here.
welcome aboard.

if you can find an uncorked pristine bike, I would jump all over it.
Many people mod them, and in reality will never see that money back.

I have seen 06 bikes with $2000 thrown at them, for ~$6-7000, which is an awesome deal.

Also the zx14 is owned by a more mature demographic than the smaller sport bikes, generally, and so you will find very clean, well taken care of bikes, that have not been stunted etc.
I would avoid one that has been flogged hard obviously,
There are just too many clean pristine ones available.

When I buy used, I like to veiw at the owners home. Generally people are habitual.
