I, myself, am running stock wheelbase. I bought a new chain with my sprockets so they can wear together, but after I reduced the links I ended up using 2 more links than stock and that put me at the very front of my swingarm.

My black vortex is steel because I'm not worried about the little bit of extra weight and it lasts longer than aluminum. Too each their own though.

I wasn't aware that vortex made steel sprockets..... interesting

edit: I just went to their website, and it appears they ONLY make aluminum sprockets....... just so you know

He might be talking about their black hardened one. That's the rear sprocket I have. My only dislikes about the solid satin black is it dosent really look clean, but at the same time it dosent look dirty. I liked my alum ones as well!

16-43 seems to be a good combo. Im still looking for a 45 steel, but cant find one yet. I tried an alum rear sprocket and it lasted a little over 1k before a few teeth bent from hard launches. Stay with a steel.

17/43 Driven Steel/Black with stock chain that finally stretched enough to get the 43 on and not be to tight. Friends stock chain went 25,000 miles, but he cleans with WD-40 and chain wax. EKZZZ chain and new OEM front and Driven Steel rear good street combo.

A not so far off topic question.
Is 16/43 practical for regular everyday street / highway riding?

No, 17/43 and sometimes I will try to shift to 7th. Only on long trips. But a 16 is a little much for Hiway long trips and a 43 too. It IS big fun around town and 60MPH 6th rear roll on's
Rocks. So does 17/43 compaired to stock.

16/43 at 65mph for me is around 3800rpms in 6th gear. Not bad for street at all. Then again I don't care about gas mileage. I waste my gas a lot if you know what I mean.

robrooter - My speedohealer is set at -12.9%. I used GPS for accuracy and typed it in their online calculator on the speedohealer website.

I'm gonna be getting a rear sprocket here before to long and I was wanting a steel sprocket. What brand do you suggest or will the vortex hardened be good as well?
