california zx 14 smog parts
Can anyone explain to me what the ca14 smog parts are and if they are necessary for a 14 with slip ons a pc with no flys? If removed would a block off kit still be in order?? thanks for the input.

California doesn't require smog checks on motorcycles yet . Not necessary they can get you on Decibels if to loud here.

Im interested in the smog parts that only come on the14 in california.the rest of the states do not require the same smog as ca.I have seen the ca smog diagram for the 14 at the dealer but he said that it wouldnt be a good idea to remove it.Now that I have done a few mods im curious if the system can be removed instead of the block off plates or if its even beneficial? any info on the subject would be of help thanks.

I pulled all the smog crap off of my 09 14, it wont help power, but it will clean up the engine bay and tail section a bit and will pull a few pounds off the bike.

Pull your smog parts... but save them. You may be required to put them on (temporarily) some day-

Thanks much for the info,very cool.would the block off kit still be required after the removal of the smog? and how long does the process take and what do you feel about the pros and cons of the idea? thanks again

Hey zx, ya its sg1320@hotmail.com. You just need to cap some stuff when you pull it off. Its not hard, probably takes an hour or two since you need to pull your fairings off, and possibly pull the gas tank off, I cant remember if I did or not. Its all pro's, no con's unless they start smogging our bikes. The main reason I did it on my 14 was so I could put a 1lb bottle in the tail section. On the CA bikes the charcoal canister sits in the tail taking up some space.

One of the local friend/mechanics that once worked on my wife's Ninja 250 pulled the charcoal canister and other parts (similar to what is shown in picture above) off of that bike. I really didn't want him to do this, but he had already done it thinking he was doing me a favor.
I have left those stuff on my bikes especially if they are covered behind the fairings and can't be seen, mostly to avoid having my whole garage smell like gas when I fill up the bike on my way home. The weight savings is very negligible on any bike (ninja 250 or zx14.)
If it makes you feel better and you want something to do on a weekend, then go ahead and remove them. I would suggest keeping them on (especially if you park your bike in your garage and you don't like the garage smell like gas), and spend the time riding the bike instead.

I have muzzy slip ons on the way so there going to smell anyway.When i remove the flys the pc will go in and if you dont want the pipes to pop then you need a block off kit for the smog so the subject comes up why not just remove the whole system?

I still have yet to remove any smog stuff from my bike lol!
I get too lazy with my bike sometimes . I guess it's true that mechanics vehicles suffer while the customers rides get all the attention lol!
Actually I did lose the 2 hoses on the rear of the gas tank , not on purpose though.
But after my 2nd major crash I needed to replace the tank , so I got one off the fleBay but the replacement tank didn have the 2 hose fittings on the rear of the tank.
So I just plugged them
