removing metal screen from air cleaner

is it just my imagination or does removing the metal screen from a stock air filter really give you just a little more power? i removed mine today because it looks like it is very restricting and it sure feels like it has a little extra power. will this hurt anything? hope not because i like it this way.....thanks for any input on this

I heard that it helps , but best to cross some wire from side to side so the filter does not cave in.
I've got a BMC street filter and these apparently outflow K&N filters.
Goodluck.

Yes it picks up a bit of HP with the screen removed ... I have run them that way and no problems with the filter caving in .. It's a pretty tuff air filter ..

yeah mine got 8000 miles , street miles, with bugs, dirt, car washes etc, and never caved in.
It did seem to have better throttle response, and maybe more top end
