Dash shift light

Does anyone know if the dash shiftlight is on true coil RPM or tacho RPM?
What do you guys have it set at?
Also what is the difference between coil & tacho RPM?
Had problems with my shift light so removed it and have a T/N/T on Friday night so
just got to sort something out .
Thanks guys

I don't use the Kawasaki shiftlight, it's too dim in bright sunshine and in the wrong place, it needs to be in your eyeline. Most riders fit an aftermarket one such as MSD.

The difference between coil rpm and tacho rpm is because the analogue instrument over-reads. Anyone who has gone to the engine rev-limiter will have seen around 11,300 or so on the tacho. On a dyno the real rev-limiter rpm from the dynojet's computer screen will be more like 10,800rpm, so the tacho is about +5% optimistic.

With that said, what would be the best setting for the dash shift light

The O.E.M. shift light is useless unless you concentrate on it instead of riding, I agree with BobC, too dim and positioned all wrong. It's easy to miss and hit rev limiter when going supersonic.

I really can only use the stage light. The shift light is too small and dim to see when the warp drives kick in.
Kawi should have made the led in both lights those super bright clear lense bulbs instead of the fogged opaque ones that are in there.
