useable fuel
Does anyone have any idea how much of the 5.8 gallons in the gas tank of my 14 is actually useable? I was coming home from Daytona this weekend and when I got to a station I put 5.28 gallons in. It had been blinking the no fuel light for 20 miles or so.

I have pumped in 5.6 gal. once. My assumption is that there may be 30 miles if sensible riding left once you get the low fuel warning signal.

I have ridden right at 29 or 30 miles after the low fuel light without running out of fuel but I didn't like the feeling of having to go that far with the warning on. I drove very sensible during that time. There is a little over a gallon left in the tank once the low fuel light comes on.

+1 I went 170 miles till I hit the low fuel once or twice. I agree there's about a gallon left. My average indicated is 34.4ish. I figure there's 200 miles in a tank between full and walk.

I got almost 25 nail-biting miles after the "low fuel" came on last time.
And I've ran out of fuel in the middle of nowhere (read NH and VT) once or twice

I ran out of fuel the other day and I had 230 miles on that tank . I coasted it into the gas station so lucked out there. Put 6.1 gallons of gas in. The range said a bit over 30 miles left before the fuel empty indicator flashed. It was 30 miles on the dot and she was out!

WOW 230 miles, I get about 160. I do have a 43t rear sprocket which reads faster than i am going so I imagine I am only getting about 145 miles on 4.5 gallons but that also keeps me at higher RPM when I am on the interstate which I am sure burns more gas.

Almost forgot ! That was riding 2 up also. I get even better when I'm by myself. Probably why I ran out of gas cause I was used to what mileage I get when I'm by myself lol!

Yah 14's are like that with mileage. Some better some worst. A lot of it is in that Right hand , the 14 turns into a freakin toilet when you twist the thing !
My worst mileage a few times was 110 miles till the fuel empty indicator flashed
I try not to ride like that too much... Gets expensive

Till the light comes on I usually get 120 something miles up to 150 miles. Comes out to about 30 to 33 or so MPG. Usually consists of a mix of full throttle runs through a couple of gears or three you know up to 120 130ish, along with the usual amount of as many twisty roads as possible. I have never used a tank of fuel cruising down the interstate can't stand it maybe if I could go 150! I consider that mileage fairly good when you consider how hard the engine has been run.
