A little advice please :)
Hey there guys, As you all know I'll be getting home in a little less than a week and I'm going to have all of my parts waiting on me. I had a couple of questions that I thought might save me some time and work if someone else has already dealt with it. Here they are.
1. Are there any tips or tricks that I need to know about putting the clems lowered oil pan on my bike in place of the stocker?
2. When I put the oil pan on I thought that I remembered seeing somewhere about needing to shorten the pickup or something to keep it from puking into the airbox. What is the best way to go about this one?
3. i ordered brocks springs and spacers, what would you guys suggest? Springs, spacers, or springs and spacers?
4. How should I go about dialing in my shock. I'm going to be 63" wheelbase, 175 lbs in shorts, racetech 13.4 kg rear spring, lowered on the 3rd hole in the rear and 1" in the front.
Thanks in advance for all of the help guys.
Chad

only trick that may come in handy with the oil pan is to remove the pipe plug on the left side first before taking it off the engine. they are glued in place and can be tricky at times.
and double check that your gasket has all of the holes in it, last year i got a new oil pan gasket from cometic and it was missing a bolt hole... weird...
its a rubber hose you should remove, or just shorten. just snip away from up high, IMO. i took mine out completely, but cutting it is the same effect.
I would start with just springs at first, and test it out. When my bike was stock wheel base, i found the clutch was too grabby with springs and spacers, went back to just springs and its fine. but its different for everbody, this is something you will need to tune in after some track testing and pratice with the setup.
and for 4, i've never used that spring or stock shock, so i have nothing to say.

Make a note of where the mounting tabs for the lower fairings are.
Wrap the drain plug with teflon tape. I just left mine in and made sure it was tight. After the install, I would end up with a tiny amount of oil on the garage floor after a day or 2. I was convinced that the welds were porous. The leak was so slight that it took awhile to determine that it was coming from the plug.

You only need two tools: WD-40 and Duct Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

I would not run HD springs and spacers together. Just my preference but have tried both and the clutch is really stiff when you run both. On the Clems pan it comes with the shortened pick up.

I just ordered the springs and spacers because i figured i would try both out seperately and see which setup i liked better. I'm ready to get away from the short wheelbase, but I have the feeling it's going to take some getting used to after making so many passes at stock length last year. My goal is to get anywhere into the 1.4's my first trip back to the track so we'll see how it goes.
Here's the list of parts that I have waiting for me. You guys look over it and let me know if i missed anything.
Full tiger tail
Extended chain guard
Spencer Cycle 2-7" extensions
EK 150 link chain
vortex 46T sprocket
Racetech spring
Extended brakeline
Shinko 003 U-soft
Clutch fibers / Gasket
Springs/ spacers
Clems oil pan / Shortened pickup

Looks like you have a good day or so of work to do! I assume you have a strap for the front. I'm thinking you woul have liked allthingschrome.nets extenions better bc they go 2 1/2" longer. You can still wheelie at 6 1/2" (just busted my pan doing it)
There's no doubt you will see 1.4's!! Let us know how it goes

I remember reading on here that someone teflon taped his sump plug and later when he dropped the pan off the screen had bits of teflon on it.
May or maynot be a good idea?

yeah, the allthings chrome extensions would have been good to know about lol. If i don't like it at 6 1/2" over i'll just buy different extensions and sell the spencer cycles ones. I can imagine that anything will be better than stock wheelbase. Once i put that pipe on it was a constant struggle to keep from wheelying everytime that I grabbed a hand full. Hopefully a year from now i'll be in the shape to buy a plummed Mcintosh arm with a bottle bracket and my 14 won't be a daily driver anymore. My next mod is going to be a spare wheel so that i'm not buying a new u-soft every month lol. I'm guessing that i'm probably going to get about 1500 miles at most out of one based on what i've read.
I weighed in on sunday and i'm solid at 175 lbs from about 190ish (give or take a few pounds depending on the week) before i came out here. My waist is also down from a 36" to a 31" and my bench is up from 225 to 275 . Oh yeah... i also went from 15-27 pull ups. Now all i have to do is not fall back into my rut when i get back home lol. If i keep it up i'll be back at my high school racing weight within a year. It's amazing what prison *uhm er deployment* can do for you. lol

I hear ya! It wouldn't hurt my fat ass to get deployed for a year or so, as I played soccer in college and was in good shape, and now you can tell I can put down a drink or two! Lol

lol, that's one of my biggest problems. I love me some sam adams, Paulaner Munchen, or Shiner Bock. It shouldn't be so bad now that i don't have a garage lol. It was always just so easy to grab a beer and go mess with the bike when i had my house. I'm just hoping that my leathers still fit lol. I got them when i was slightly more ahem... Rotund lol

Lol! Better for them to be to big rather than too small. Everyone here would have laughed when I got mine (I weighed 235, thyroid is all messed up) and I bought the leathers I have now. You can see in the last pics I posted they are still a little snug at 200.
