Long Island, NY to Vegas Rountrip 5100+ miles
Got back last Thursday from a ride out to Vegas. 4 days riding there 4 days in
Vegas and 4 days back. At one time we had up to a dozen sportbike riders that
wanted to go, but when it was time to pull it was me on my ZX-14, and 3 female
riders, a Kawasaki ZX-10, Suzuki GSXR-750,and a CBR 600. The route I had planed
was pretty simple taking I-80 West until we hit I-15 South that would take us
into Vegas and returning Taking I-15 North to I-70 East until we split to go our
separate ways to reach home. We hit temperatures that ranged from the low 40's
to over 100 once we arrived in Vegas. We kept a steady pace of 10-15 over the
speed limit with an occasional cracking of the throttle when the roads were very
clear. That worked fine on the way there but coming back we were stopped twice.
Once in a speed trap in Colorado where it went from 75 to 55 and dropping to 50
in a few hundred feet ahead of us. He said he clocked up 76 in a 55 but none of
us saw where the speed had changed, it was night and I guess it had to be there
somewhere. He gave us warning and said the ride was punishment enough. The
second stop was in Kansas while we were fighting the wind, I saw when the
officer came across the grass median, but we wasn't going that fast so I didn't
think much of it. The speed limit was 70 and he said we wavering anywhere
between 80 and 86, he said wouldn't of stopped us if we kept it closer to 80, so
he gave me a written warning and we kept it at 79 for the rest of the state.
Utah and the western part of Colorado had the best roads and scenery. The worst
part of the trip was heading home after Denver until we hit Missouri the roads
were straight and scenery was bland almost like it kept repeating. The biggest
scare of the trip was on the way there in Nebraska there was deer standing on
the shoulder of the highway, but after cracking the throttle and a swerve he ran
back into the woods. Somewhere near the end of Ohio or the beginning of
Pennsylvania I hit a traffic cone and it broke of my right foot peg, I didn't
think much of it until my rear brake started smoking. It turned out that the
rear brake pedal was stuck, wedged in between the frame and exhaust pipe. I
pulled it out and a few zip ties later we were back on the road and finished the
trip that way.
32 states down 18 to go.

Aww man nothing like a road trip on a bike. I have yet to do a cross country trip on my bike . I envy you ! Sounds like the trip was fun , also I find it funny and cool that the girl riders were the ones who ended up being the ones to join you lol. Its funny but if I was told I was gonna snap my peg off and smoke my rear brake or something before I took a roadtrip I'd be like screw that I don't want nothing to happen to my bike lol! But when you're on the trip and stuff like that happens you just find a way to fix it and keep on going. Road trips on a bike ... Another thing about motorcycling that just has to be experienced not explained !

I did a route similar to that 2 years ago on my 600, I-10 was 80 in the daytime and 65 at night. Caught a ticket 104 in a 65, $300 dollar ticket but no points on my NY license.
879 miles on 1 road and still in the same state.

sounds like my kind of ride! I hope to hit 8,000 miles logged this season myself. over half of it alone because nobody I know has a comfortable enough bike. I did a road trip from Denver to Wash state in a u-haul pulling a 37 olds trailered. (if a car is a cage..what is a u-haul?) Colorado does have the nice roads an scenery (and the highest bathroom in North America btw). Somehow the Oregon Coast trip got squeezed out 1 more year. sigh.. OK so where did you put 3 girls on a ZX14? We need pics brother!

That sounds and looks like an awesome trip! I would love to do a big trip. Big for me any way like maybe 1000 miles round trip over like 3 or 4 days. I am pretty old so that would probably be all my 14 and I could stand.

Naw you'd make it. I did hi-mile sport-touring trips on my 14, but this summer I did a 1000 mile day through west va/KY/TN on my 600RR

You can make the trip a little more interesting by exiting off I-15 at Cedar City, UT and going up Hwy 14 to US 89 to Hwy 12 through the Grnad Staircase/Capitol Reef National Parks until you get to Torrey. Then take Hwy 24 out back to I -70. Adds 70 miles but great roads and scenery. I just recently did the trip on my way to Detroit from Vegas. I-76 from Denver to I-80, to I-94. 2083 miles door to door. I only have one state left: Oregon. Don't ask me how I did it, but just that one to go.

Yeah these trips are awesome. I need to pencil something in for next year myself. A more comfortable bike
would be something to look into. I wouldn't replace my steed, I would just add a partner to the stable. Maybe
VFR or something that wouldn't fold my back in2. Cant bring the wife and kids, so that might ditch any plans...
hey may have to invest in2 a trailer.

1000 miles in One day on 600?? Wow.... How many hours were you on the road each day? What was your speed average? You must be Much younger than me(50's) and not as tall. And I thought 450 miles in one day was good. Russelleville Arkansas, Ozark mountains is a Blast. Good ride from Fort Worth, Texas for a Old man :-)
At 6'3" 225 in shorts now way I can ride my 14 1000 miles in One day. LSL high mount
bar kit, Buell pegs, 2008 Connie seat and I am done after 450 miles in 12 hours.
Stopped for gas every 150 miles and food several times and just to rest several times.
Iron Butt for sure.... good riding.

After looking at a map I could of knocked a few sates off my list by just going over the border and back.
I'll have to make a note of those routes, Cause I definitely see myself hitting that area again.
