When/how often to change oil in a new engine?
I would like to do a WOT 11,000 rpm ring seating after a thorough warm up and then change the oil at ~20-30 miles. The people at the dealership are telling me to leave the oil in at least 250 miles because the friction caused by microscopic metal shavings will help my engine ware in. My feeling is there is going to be a hell of a lot more metal floating doing the max rpm ring seal than there would with a gentle break in.
Do you think changing oil too soon or too often when the bike is new is bad for the engine?

I try to put a quick 100 miles on mine then put in Mobil One syn oil and head to the track ...Some times i skip that and go right to the track with 20 miles on the bike and change it the next day ..

I do this with my bikes but at 500 miles I change the oil. I've always believed it a waste of time and money to change the oil at 50 miles. There are lots of arguments about it and I would never say anyone was wrong for doing it their own way. It is just my personal opinion that a bike engine wears in better when the oil stays for at least 500 miles.

Okay, don't kill me.........I got an 08 b/o busa. No way I'm giving up the 14. They will be stablemates.
Thanks for oil suggestions. I hope i get more.
I'm planning to do a much harsher break in on the busa but I am starting to get the feeling that it really won't make make a big dif either way. I don't know if it is necessary to do 11,000 rpm. Why is there not more people who have definite answer on this? The overriding opinion seems to be break in according to manufacturer's recommendation but the reasoning is to not void the warranty.

As long as you don't run synthetic till the motor is broken in you should be fine changing the oil quickly. Putting in synthetic will definitely keep the motor from breaking in properly.

No but what he said stay away from full synthetic till you get some full break in miles on for proper valve seating

Sorry, rich. This is the best i have so far. Only had an hour before they closed so when i got it out, I wanted to ride it. Had to get it back to stealer because they are storing for me until I can get a friend to drive my car back home while I ride bike back. Too cheap (poor, now) to pay $25 for delivery to my house.
Took her on her maiden run today. 13 miles. Did the WOT, 11K thing 3 times. It didn't feel abusive at all. I would have been too scared to do that on the 14. It feels way more aggressive than the busa but it is just the different character of each machine. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the riding experience is different enough to justify owning both.
