Flash To Pass

I was looking through the factory service manual ('07) and noticed that it says that some models are equipped with a flash to pass button (obviously not us models).
does anyone know which models are equipped with it?
and how i can get one here in the states?
or direct me to a previous thread on this?

I think it refers to the headlight flasher switch. If you don't have it, it's a non-latching button on the left handlebar under your forefinger. It operates the main or high beam momentarily while it's depressed. I don't know which countries have "flash to pass" as part of their traffic laws though.

Perhaps you could buy a left-hand switch cluster for a European model ZX-14?

i looked on Kawi's european sites but i couldn't find a fiche to look at it better and get a part #.
i did however make a trip by the local dealer and noticed that the Versys has a flash to pass and it looks just like the left side 14 piece. but on ron ayers fiche the plugs are different. gonna see if maybe that can be remedied with a pin pusher. for some reason the Versys piece is cheaper than the original 14 part also.

Is a flash to pass button asking permission to overtake a vehicle? I've had a bike with that and it seemed like another distraction...like blinkers. Most cars do not know youre there anyway. My opinion..If you flash a vehicle in front of you you give them the chance to get pissed as to why your brighting them = road rage. I ride respectfully of cars but never give them a chance to decide where they want me. I'm not a big fan of gadgetry I guess

I think all bikes should have this feature. One of the best ways to make sure you're noticed,
not so much for passing but for oncoming traffic. How many times has an oncoming 4 wheeler pulled out of his lane to pass while you're in "His" way? They can say they don't see you with your lights on, but they can hardly ignore it when a light is flashing several times a second. I think someone should actually design a strobe feature for situations like that.

There has always been some controversy over the headlight flash and what it means. Truck drivers in the UK use it to mean "come on" when they are giving way. It has never been part of the official Highway Code but I think it has assumed that meaning. In continental Europe it originally used to mean "I want to pass". With today's congested roads it's not going to get you very far though. I rarely use my bike's headlight flasher to signal other traffic, it's too easy to get hurt if the meaning is mis-understood.

I don't use it on my current bike and it is equipped w/one. However, I do use it to alert on coming bikers that a bear is taking target practice.
