Who's running a 1500+cc zx14 on here?
So who's running a 1500+cc zx14 on here?
What kind of power are you making?
How much time is on the engine?
Whats your particular build combo?

I have the Muzzy 1530 kit, stock heads and cams, 46 mm throttle bodies, modified muzzy zx-12 header. I put 500 miles on it around town before going to Loring. 6 passes at Loring and 20 passes at a 1/4 dragstrip.
No idea on power... but it is as fast as the stock motor with 2 x .028 nitrous jets
Roy
gonna try E85 at maxton if the weather holds...

How fast did your bike go with the two .028 jets, and over what distance? Two .028's is considered, what, a 60 shot?

stock motor
with the naked setup on nitrous , 189 mph at maxton , 148 mph in the 1/4
with the naked setup on motor , 175 mph at maxton , 143 mph in the 1/4
1530 motor
naked setup on motor , 187 mph at loring with a headwind, 202 with a tailwind

I wouldn't dare consider puting a 1530 piston/crank kit in a bike without doing head and cams along with it. That's defeating the purpose. That bigger motor has got to breath a whole lot more. Head port and cams to go with the pistons and stroke would yield a lot more on the dyno and the track than stock.

has anyone compared what a stroker kit wit stock heads and cams makes vs a stroker kit with cams and ported heads make ?
I dont think I have seen anyone advertise how much more a ported zx14 head flows and I have heard it is hard to make improvements on this head.
The redline on a stroker will be lower because of piston speed , so I do not think that I would want any more duration than the stock cams have already. The only thing I would consider is more lift , but if the stock heads are the limiting factor I am not sure how much that would help.
But if someone has good info , I am willing to look at it. At this point I think there is more power from switching to E85 than gettting cams and port work done.

Roy,
Any heat issues at all so far?
What you have been hearing about the stock head is true to a point, on a stock displacement zx14. Its not that the head cant be made to flow a ton of air on a flow bench, its that the port taper and the MCSA get out of wack by the time you get to those CFM numbers. But, once you go to 1500+cc throw everything you have heard about the zx14 head out the window.
That engine should make 240-245 rwhp on a dynojet dyno. And it will still have far more midrange than a stock zx14.
The 1530 engine absolutely needs a ported head and big cams. Bigger cams than the buckets will even allow. It needs 28mm busa buckets in it.

Y2KZX12R, so what exactly would you need to do if you go from a 1417 to a 1500+CCs in ref to the head and/or cams if the heads are already ported with .395 cams. Would u need to do any additional porting, would the same cams suffice, buckets, etc., also how would u start this thing with the much larger pistons and stroke with very limited space on the 14 as far as adding a 2nd battery?

i did not ride it around when the air temp was really high , but i did not see any heating issues at Loring . I have switched to E85 , and the temps are always low now.

so how much hp difference will there be and what is a ballpark number on cost ?
Is the ex port work different for E85?

It will be interesting to see what you find at Maxton. My best guess is that the tailwind and distance added around 15-16 mph over what I would see in the mile given similar temps and humidity.

so what kind of $$ are we talking about in regards to having a shop take a stock 14 engine and bore, stroke, port, cam, etc. whatever it takes to get to the 230+rwhp mark with same or better midrange? Assuming an engine was shipped or dropped off at the shops door and shipped back. ??

Well, Sticks...just some parts costs:
Muzzy 1534 Kit $1700
Rods $1050
Cams $700+
Valve Springs/Retainers $375
Adjustable Cam Sprockets $50
Bore and Plate $650
I would also figure on:
Billet Clutch Basket $400
Cylinder Studs $130
Undercut/Trans Work $650
Cam Chain Tensioner $50
Total $5755
That does not include porting, which I am sure would be somewhere around $1000 or more, depending on the vendor.
That also does not include assembly costs. Nor the gaskets, seals and bearings.
Just a rough idea...

Also got to figure in boring the cylinder, which Millineum charges $650.00 for the 14.

Actually I went back and edited it. Good catch.
I would say that it would be an easy $8000+ for a motor like this, once it is tuned and ready to ride. There are so many tiny things that add up that aren't listed. Even doing all of the labor yourself it is still pricey.
Sure, there are areas you can cut corners to save costs...if that is the way you want to build it.

Shane, I'm getting ready to install the velocity stacks. I went back and read your build, pg 45. After you got the tank off and the side panels, what other tools did you need and were the bolts that hold the clamp already staggered or did you have to stagger them yourself?

Big motor's get expensive quick. I've easily got over 5K in my ZRX motor just in parts and machining.
