Mustang 1 - ZX 0
Sitting at a red light yesterday got tagged by a teenage girl in a mustang. Guess why (talking or texting on a cell)!!! Had just stopped behind another car at a red light, noticed a red mustang stopping behind me. ( I always try and make a point at looking behind me to make sure their stopping. Luckily she did stop, it was the taking off that left much to be desired.
The light turns green and Im just starting to get the clutch engauged and (pow). Knocked me about a bike length forward. Of course for a split second I have this WTF is going on like you started the bike in 2nd or 3rd and it stalled and lunged forward. Or course that only lasted a second then I see a mustangs headlight cover passing me on the road.
Overall I was real lucky no damage (yet) to the 14 just a bent up tag and bracket. I took the bike to the local dealer and had my good friend who manages the service department go over it to make sure there was no hidden damage. The bottom line was the girl was texting or talking and saw the light turn green, traffic moving and away she went, right into me. I didnt go down just pushed forward luckily. Needless to say I had her in tears due to the enormus ASS chewing that proceeded about the whole cell phone, attention while driving speech. For a second there I had visions of smashing her cell phone to bits.
Anyway thanks for listening to my venting, off to get a new tag!!

Glad you are alright! I still can't believe people are finding it more important to get there text or phone call in then making sure they are, and everyone on the road around them is safe.

i tell you i worry more sitting at the light than any other time. you are a sitting duck. at least when you're riding you are a moving target. cell phone use should be banned while driving.

It wouldn't have been "right" to smash her phone, but as short tempered as I am, I think I coulda slung it about 30-40 yards! Taught that ignorant women a lesson. Glad you only have to buy a tag

Glad you're ok and that you were able to keep the rubber side down and damage to a minimum.
I hate how everyone's initial response to something happening is This or That should be banned. Don't people give a shit about their freedoms. Do they want a law for every thing? Do they realize that a lot of people think sport bikes should be banned because they are dangerous. That is the exact same mentality.
It wasn't the cell phone, it was the shitty driver. I talk on the cell phone all the time when i'm driving and my situational awareness is still at 100%.
No more silly little laws and bans. Let people make their own choices and suffer the consequences if they fuck up.

I think women in general should be banned from driving. Some people can talk and drive as well some people can drink and drive ok...

I agree, i think the DUI laws are way out of hand too. They got to where they are today by the same reactionary mentality.

I don't think they need to be banned as long as you can keep both hands on the wheel. Obviously that eliminates texting.
To be honet, I would rather gay off on a Busa then text. WTF is wrong with people. IT'S A MOTHER FRIGGIN PHONE PEOPLE, YOU CAN TALK INTO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It makes about as much sense as Pissear on a good day
Glad you are ok, hopefully the bike is as well.

Start a poll, you have to drive through Chicago, all the drivers on the road are:
1) Straight heterosexual MEN (a man's man) but are hammered (drunk)
or
2) Women and Gay men (not that there is anything wrong with that )
I got to tell you I would still go with #1. Women scare me.

she should have gotten a dwi (driving while impaired). My brother runs a wrecker service and he once picked up a car where the guy hit a tree while he was on the phone arguing with his wife. lol

Sux doesn't it? Glad your ok. December 24th 2007 I got nailed from behind by a cement truck while sitting at a stop sign waiting for oncoming traffic to clear. My bike was only about two months old and suffered only $1800. minor damages and I wasn't hurt. Destroying her cell phone would be ok in my book, stupid inattentive drivers. Women on cell phones are the worst, they use them like security blankets and are in another universe when driving, grr.

Cell phone usage impairs a driver's ability to concentrate. Look it up, there are studies to back this fact up. I try not to use my cell when driving, but when I do I annoy the hell out of whomever I should be talking to because my concentration is on the road, where it should be.
As bikers we should be against cell phone usage in vehicles. Same for DUI, although the ability for one to operate under the influence is relative and should be taken into account instead of blood alcohol.
I'm all for much stricter licensing. In the US all you need is a pulse and the ability to discern light from dark in order to pass our driving tests. A good test would knock 30% of the idiots off the road. Public transport would increase, speed limits could safely increase and the odds of an idiot hitting a biker would decrease.

+1
I agree completely
If you are on the phone, you ARE NOT as aware as when you are focused on the road.
and as far as the stricter licensing, that is what they did in Germany for years now, and they have excellent drivers compared to the average asleep at the wheel North American.
I have driven there and experienced it for myself. They even use the lane as a passing and fast lane, and move over when being overtaken.
They have the Autobahns, afterall too.

I don't need to look it up. I know that's true. I still think we have too many laws as it is.
As bikers we should ride defensively and keep ourselves alive. I NEVER assume a driver is paying attention to me or focused on the road (same when i drive a cage).
