rear brake pads...

Heys guys, not sure if anyone has talked about this...I have a blue 06 with 20k now. Was just wondering if anyone with higher mileage has had an issue with rear pads. I think for the first 10k or so the first set had good life and I used the rear brake regularly. Since changing to the second set it seems like they will only last a couple thousand before they are gone. The second set went fast, then I consciously started not using the rear brake that much. So here I am now ready for the fourth set and this set I feel I barely used them and they are gone. The rotor is showing a little grooving, not too bad I suppose. Just wondering what you guys think? I still have the original front pads :O, they are close to done though. I am not going to say that I dont ride it hard, some times I do, but I guess I am just really efficient with the brakes...except the rear and I know I dont ride them...all the pads are EBC when I get them from the cycle store or dealership. Also mostly commute the past couple years...any ideas, probably different pads that I should order or factory? Thanks

Hmm haven't needed to replace my rear pads on my red 14 yet and I have over 50,000 on them. They are just over half life. Perhaps your rotor is wearing out your pads or you are just using more rear brake lately?

The soft after markets made a big difference for me in the front didn't do much for the rear

But i bet the aftermarkets dont burn up in a few thousand miles!
Something is definitely wrong , id recommend changing the rotor and if that doesn't help check to see if the rear brake is dragging?

Thanks guys...well I guess I thought of the sideways name from high school(86-90), when myself and friends would abuse our cars or anything we drove. Especially in the rain, getting sideways(landing in yards), burning rubber and everything else. I have been riding motorcycles since 2000 and I am a road racing fan. So I figured the name fit the motorcycle life style also(when the bikes are rounding a corner leaning over sideways etc.) I have also been drag racing v-rods since 2005. So I have been using that screen name as my call sign for a couple motorcycle forums, fantasy football etc.!

Thats an aftermarket rotor not stock. Better than stock as far as braking. Might eat your pads faster though.

you wonder what a galfer wave rotor is?

galfer is the brand, wave is the style of cut.

performance will be better, use the suggested flavor galfer pads too and you'll be better off all around

Like this one...
Mine came with a different rear brake caliper too.
BTW I'm a big fan of Vesrah brake pads!

I've got 18k miles on mine and the rear pads look like new or so still. I quit using them mostly after a few times trying to stop for a car I crept up on with some speed difference and the rear tire was fish tailing. I did however have to replace the fronts at 15k miles. Used stock pads as I was happy with the brakes. I don't think the rotor is going to wear brake pads out faster you must have the linkage on the rear brake somehow dragging. I think rear brakes are mostly useful in the curves and thats about all on a bike.

I use to hear back brakes are only 30% of your stopping power seems like less than that on a ZX14

That's that same old pic that I keep posting here... the dog is well behaved.

Saw someone mention it- Brock's doesn't make cf wheels- he just badges the BSTs that he sells.
