Good work man. Keep it up! I can't wait to better my sorry 60 foot times. 1.78's. Making 150 mph. Time's are 9.68. Launched at 4200. Gearing 16/43. Thanks for posting your launch RPM's. I'll try 5000 next time. With me at 155lbs, I can only imagine a 9.30 or 20 coming soon. Thanks again. Keep it coming.

Congrats, JR. You will probably get a better ET by keep it around 5500 launch, but getting the throttle pinned and clutch out quickly. A lot of times the tendancy is to raise the launch rpm, and then become tentative with the throttle.
Arcadiana, I would suggest bringing the rpm up in 500 rpm increments. That way you won't become apprehensive with the throttle.
Remember, smoothness and control are keys to going fast consistently. I am able to run pretty consistently, and the faster I get the clutch out and throttle pinned, the quicker my ET's are getting.

yeah ur right shane i was launching at 5500 - 6000 but i notice i wasnt pinning the gas fast enough wonce i pinned it a little faster pulled a 9.6 and i red line second gear on this run . but ur right the bike feels better launching around 5500 with this gearing.

yeah i launch at 5500 - 6000 but im geared up 16/45 i really dont know how 16/43 works but i would try 5000 see how it feels it should help you. it all about seat time and control of the gas and clutch . i did alot of reading on my gearing and its paying off

Thanks, Shane & JR. Good coaching. Pinning the gas is what most of my problem has been. Can wait to get back on the track.

You have way too much gearing. Go back to the 16/43. Also, you could be losing a few hundredths every time you shift. It takes a lot of practice to be quick at it. I also shifted mine at about 11,200. That way, when the rpm dropped, it was right in the middle of the torque curve going back up. Some would say going past 11,000 is too much, that the bike loses hp well before that, but, I would rather go up past that point, then shift, and have the rpm drop below the peak torque area, and have to fight back up hill.
Your 60's are good. Nothing wrong with a 1.6. Some guys take more than a year on the 14 to get that. But like I said, it think your geared too high, and maybe slamming it into the rev limiter, before you remember to shift. It happens quick. Good job.

JR, don't change the bike yet. It will go 9.3's or better with your setup. Mine did, with 2" less wheelbase. Yes, your setup can be optimized later. But right now I would just focus on making passes, and getting some practice in.
Later, as you get better with the cluch, you might find you want less gear so that you can be more aggressive.

hmm i never tryed 16/43 but i do like the 16/45 . im shifting right at 11,000 on the 9.60 pass i did redline second but shift quick . 16/45 was the first gearing i tryed lol my 60 foot i know i could get better on i notice im pinning the gas and off the clutch right after the lights . i know the gas should be pinned and clutch out before the tree i. i guess im still a little scared of getting to aggresive and going up. but i only got 10 passes on my belt so far so im happy lol

shane so the trick is to get the gas pin almost off the line while releasing it with the clutch hand and having every thing done by the tree. i notice alot of people pin that gas asap and out that clutch .

Well, I'll say that the key is to get the gas pinned as soon as you can. Without good clutch control, it could lead to an uncomfortable situation. If I were running your setup (and new to drag racing the 14), I would start practicing at 4k rpm or even less. Come off the clutch and pin the throttle as soon as possible...when you find it is bogging, keep adding a little launch rpm until it wheelies. With 16/45 gearing the motor will pull up real fast, even if you bog it some.
Pick a practice launch rpm low enough that you are not reluctant to pin the throttle. Once you have trained yourself to get in the throttle quickly, and come off the clutch....then you can add some rpm.
Just my .02...the advice I should be following as well. Remember, I am not an expert, but I give the best advice I can.

JR, as you progress with your technique you may want to consider a drag race shock
from Ohlins or Penske. If you are still on the stock shock at that length you have far
exceeded its capabilities. Having enough rebound dampening in the rear shock will
help with the launches. Keep on practicing! Have fun...

+1 on the drag seat. I am close to your size and it helped greatly. To be honest I have
mirrored (copied) a few of the things Shane has done to his bike. I still refer back to his
thread before I make a change as chances are he has already tried it. Later...
