gas tank hiss?
So, recently I have noticed my gas tank hissing? I don't recall this happening before. It did it all the time with my zx6r, but don't remember it on the 14. Is this common? I am in Fl, so it's a little warm but... IDK. Also, what do y'all do about corroding hardware? Just replace or something else? My gas tank is getting hard to open and the hardware is corroding. The key takes a bit of effort to open and a little love tap to close.

zx6reaker- The hissing is normal. I live in Florida also and mind normally only does this when the fuel level is low. I'm not sure what to advise you on the corroding issues, I haven't experience that but I've heard of some members purchasing a quick release gas cap. I can't remember the manufacture. Hopefully someone will chime in with more info

All 4 kawasaki's I've owned hissed.
I've never had to replace one, but vortex makes a nice gas cap!

My 1986 FJ1200 has done this from day one in the heat. As does my 14. Weird but my 1998 ZX-9R did not hiss while in the hot Texas sun. Normal gas tank vent tube release.

You need to attend to this before the key breaks off in the lock. There's a rubber gasket inside the hinged lock cover, this is supposed to keep dirt and moisture out, check that it's still there. The best lubricant for locks is dry graphite powder but the chances are the filler cap lock is lubricated with oil, so I would give the lock a really good squirt with WD40 and leave it overnight. Also press down on the filler cap as you turn the key to open it, this takes some of the strain off the key. With the cap open you could try turning the key both ways several times to loosen things up, then give it some more WD40.

Checked the rubber gasket, everything is still there and in good shape just corrosion around the hardware and some of the metal above the gasket. I have sprayed the key with 3 in 1 oil with silicone additive and it is better but not like new. I am thinking of changing the entire gas cap. Never done this before but looks pretty straight foward.
I probably never paid much attention to the hiss until now. Don't know why it's bothering me now. I just pop the tank to vent it and it goes away for a little while. but she does the for a while after I park her in the garage. Just wanted to make sure I'm not going to make my tank explode. Don't want any hoses plugged or pinched. Thank you guys for all of your opinions. This is THE best forum for advise and know how!

Hissing is normal, keeps the pressure down. I sprayed WD 40 on my lock and ignition key when it got tight and it loosened up real quick. Moisture or rain can cause this.

Same here. Never lost sleep over it though. I sorta like the hissing. It gives bike a little character around the silent Suzukis.

This makes me feel better. I'm glad to hear that the hissing is normal. I took my gas tank lid off (funny enough only three of the bolts hold it on the other two are for show) and lubed it with the 3 in 1 silicone spray. It has loosened signifigantly in a few hours. I ride everyday, rain or shine. I will probably buy a different gas cap for it. I have the 07 SE and don't like the black gas cap on my white bike. You guys are great, really. I appreciate everything y'all do for my lack of knowledge. Thank you.
Now...any good suggestions for after market gas tank caps?

I have only seen one vortex cap and it was extremelly hard to open. It screwed in/out and seemed to stick a lot. I don't know if that's common or just on that bike. It was a sv650. Just wasn't impressed with it.
