pc installation
I ordered a pc for my 08 zx14. The guy I ordered it through said it may take 2 or 3 hours of labor. I was under the impression that a power commander was a pretty easy thing to install. He said it depended on were it hooked in... Any input from the guys that already have one installed.

If it is your first time taking the fairings off, he may be right. But if you have done it before, less than an hour if the map is preloaded IMO.

I have taken fairing off, no issue there. I am looking at instalation instructions looks pretty simple. My mechanic is usually pretty honest but when he told me that it would take that long I had to ask around.

It is pretty simple. The hardest part is finding a great map without buying a Brock's pipe. But if you already have a great map and the fairings is off, it should take no more than 30min. to install imo.

The recomended earth / ground point behind the coolant bottle has caused alot of members grief . I ran it direct to the battery ground bolt behind the battery cover on the right hand side and never had another problem.

If you have big hands it will be tough as well. I had some other installation issues and it did take me a few hours............I could see that.

It is just "plug and play" very easy!
Try the Dynojet powercomander website , should have instructions!

I've earthed it to the recommended point, no problem so far...... Thanks for the tip, should I get a problem , that will be the first place to look.
As for fitting. Agree with the posting that it takes longer to get the fairings off than it does the fitting it. However if you want to make a neat job of it - get the best cable routing and cable-tie it to the existing harness etc, a couple of hours was about what it took me.

It is easy to install . . . . the hardest part is unplugging the bikes harness under the injector bodies.

Do a search it is your friend in this case. I think I may have even posted a few tips on how my install went; I have an 08 also.
I put my under the left dam cover black zip tied to the frame. I used the mounting point in the instructions but I used a washer (star one I think) between the washer bottler and frame for a good ground.
I also used a long flat bladed screw driver to gently pry the harness prong up and then pulled on the harness as close as I could to the plug to separate it. I have pretty big hands so was the best way I could do it. Just go easy and be careful.
I am pretty anal but took me maybe 45 minutes and this was jacking with the zip ties and such.
Prolly if I did it again I might consider snaking it through so I could mount the PC under the seat or getting a USB extension cable and rounting it out under the seat.

if you put it up front on the lh ram air tube the install is pretty simple. unplugging the factory harness as others have said is the worst part.
i put mine in the rear under the seat and that was a little more time consuming running the wires with the factory harness is a little bit of a chore but looks nice in the end.....hope this helps
there are lots of maps floating around........someone should have something close to what you need if they will share. post it up and if i can help you out i will. also there is nothing that will take the place of a custom map for your bike, they are all different.
i put a known good map in my brothers stock busa and then tuned it myself and picked up 5hp and 3ft/tq on pump gas. not great but on that bike it was about a 3% gain that showed up at the track. mostly because not only was peak hp affected but, the "curve" in which the bike runs at wot shifts was up slightly as well.

Pulling the wiring harness is a huge PITA. I had no feeling inmy left thumb for 3 weeks after the install. The key is not to use brute force. The harder you pull, the more the plug wedges in there. The best way is to pull a bit under the plug and then a bit above. You don't really have to press the tab down much to make the catch clear even though it may seem like that is what is holding the plug in there so tight. Once the plug comes out a bit, the catch will not be lined up to engage and you will not need to depress the tab any more. Just keep pulling top,bottom, top, bottom and after about a mm, it will come out.
This may help with the ground issue. I guess just paste that in your browser and go to to read what Philhnnss has to say about that.

I just de-installed and positioned the PC 5 under the seat. It was WAYYYYYYYYY more work pushing that thing through the tiny crack under the battery box. I don't know if a PC3 would even fit because the 5 just barely made it. The tank needs to be removed and a couple other smaller parts. I took pics and plan to post a How-To some day. It is a lot easier just sticking it on the ram air tube like they recomend.
