Motorcycle death in Utah
“Witnesses said they heard a small bang. After that, the vehicle lost control.” said Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Jacob Hicks.
The investigation was centering on the rear tire of the motorcycle, he said. “It’s separated from the wheel,” Hicks said. “That tire should have been changed thousands of miles ago. It’s worn bald.”

Some people are too big of dorks to maintain properly their machine and shouldn't be on them.

I don't know whats worse a tire with no tread causing an accident or a guy in the back ground with a helmet on his bike and not his head staring at the accident instead of the road. I have never understood why some one would bother to even bring there helmet if they were not gonna wear it. especially while looking at a motorcycle crash!

Ummmm, because it's required in many other states and if the rider was riding across states, they'd be SOL without it...that was only a guess, mind you.

^^^Possible. Nevada requires helmets, while neither UT or AZ require them for anyone over 18. St George is on the border and near all three states.
But still...why take it off in the first place?
The rider of the crashed bike wasn't wearing a helmet either. Don't know if that would have saved him or not, but this is an example of why gear is always a good idea (although, a tire that f'd up is something that IS avoidable in the first place).

I've lost count of how many bald or worst worn to the belt tires on bikes here in socal.
Almost all the bikes that come into my shop to change their rear tire are bald to the belt.
Also I've gotten a few front tires worn to the belt recently !
