quote: how is it going rr? if y2k gets a 14 to play with and the ecu stuff works well you guys may make me put a 14 into my 12.
I should have a zx14 soon. I had RR's ecu mod in my 12r and I'm looking forward to being able to have full access to the zx14's ecu as well.
As soon as the software is available I'll be digging in.
I'm modeling some serious changes to the induction and exhaust systems right now and I'll need to be able to change the injector offset timing among a host of other things.

That mod only helps a very small group of people.
Stock bikes can't use the extra RPMs and built bikes still need a PC for fueling.
The speed limit can be removed for $100.
I think most people are waiting on the tuning software.

Why can't stock bikes use the extra RPM?

The HP is already dropping before you run out of rpm.

On a stock motor 14 with a pipe, the power flattens off at about 9500-10k. It's not losing much power by 11k, but it's definitely not gaining any either.

Shortmeg, short velocity stacks, MR9. Sure you could rev the piss out of it, but with diminishing returns on hp and soft valve springs, why bother?

i just bumped mine up so i do not get as close to the limiter. sort of like getting it out of the way. i still shift a tad over 12,200 which is around 11700ish by the ecu.
shane did you get your bike to the track yet?

I find it to be worth around 6 hp. I'd be happy to dyno same day, same dyno with you. That way we could compare apples to apples.
The pull below is with a different header, and a leaner map:

You can see that the hp curve is still about the same, the 14 is definitely done building power before 11k rpm.
Dyno #'s are a funny thing. I do all my comparisons on the same dyno for that reason.

i think that would be fun but we know the chances of that happening. one pull while i was leaning it out for the shootout we let the bike cool down while i was on the laptop figureing out where to cut some fuel and it got cooled down a lot and it acted like it did at the track on first cold passes by building hp crazy which always throws the front up fast and gave me a 189. it only ever did that once. we were worring about the shoorout only does one pull. and i pick up 2 usually on the second. it was a lot of fun. i do not know if i am going to do the shootout this year. i lost to a 07 zx14 and my bike was pig rich (for dyno numbers anyway) and i have a heavy shinko on the back. i may not have a chance.

189 on a stock motor 12 on pump gas? I'd love to get on that dyno. My 12R that ran 193 mph at Maxton on pump gas only pulled 173 hp on a local dyno. That gives you an idea of how much these things vary!
How much did the 14 make??

Any updates on the availability of the software and hardware to do self-tuning on the 14 via the ECU?

I just sent in my ECU for speed and rev limiter modifications. Still no ETA on the tuning kit release.
But part of the $375 for the reprograming will go towards the purchase of the tuning kit when it becomes available.
So for now I'll be using a Bazzaz.
