Testing the Shinko 008 slick ..

As most of you know i have been running the 003 shinko Usoft tires for about 3 years .. I have had good luck with the Usoft .. If track is prep is good it's a great cheap drag tire ..If the track prep is not so good i either spin at the starting line or spin on the back half of the track , and sometimes both...We are pretty lucky that both our tracks are most times in very good shape and well looked after as far as prep .. But there are times because of heat the track gets a little greasy and we spin untill the temps come down later at night ... Well i hate to waste runs because we get so few runs in one night ..

Tonight i had my new 008 shinko slick installed and it works !! I set the PSI to 18 pounds and the tire dead hooked every run !! At first i was doing my burnouts just like i was with the Usoft but i found out later it needs little to NO burnout to hook ..One of my runs i could not get the tire to spin in the burnout box and this was after wetting the tire first.. I would try to do the burnout and the bike would hook and just drive out of the burnout box ..So i said fuck it and just pulled up to the line and let it eat .. I put down a 1.39 60 foot with NO burnout at 18 PSI !! ... The next run i just did a dry hop to clean the dirt off the tire and had a 1.38 60 foot !!!

Tommy had also changed over to the 008 shinko slick on his zx14.. I told him to try it without a burnout ..He did and it dead hooked also .. We added some air to Tommys tire ( 24 PSI ) and it still hooked with no burnout ..

My Ets and MPH with the slick were dead on with my Usoft when the usoft was hooking ...So i didn't gain anything ET wise from the switch of tires , but i have no more spinning problems.. The 008 tire is the same price as the 003 so no extra cost , just extra hook for the same price ... Seeing that i need only a little burnout or no burnout out the 008 should last a very long time compaired to the 003 Usoft ... If i get double the life out of the 008 that will save me 130 bucks over the 003 Usoft tire ...Times being the way they are every little bit helps..

If your track has a problem with prep and you can't hook i would say give the Shinko slick a try ...

I should add if the tire works at higher PSI than the 003 Usoft it should pick up some MPH and ET over the 003 tire ...I didn't test this with my bike tonight but i will the next time out .. All my runs tonight were done at 18 PSI ..I will try 24 next time out ..

Just wish it was legal to run in street classes.. My full bore is starting to get slick after ab 15 passes and a few hundred street miles. I won't buy another one.

Thanks for the Info. Smokin. I'm going to switch to the 008 if I find out I can run it in bracket racing at State Capitol in Baton Rouge.

Sounds like a tire to use for tuning, even if I can't use it in my class.
Save me some cash on rubber, and also make tuning more predictable!

Yeah what good is it if most racers run a class that requires a DOT tire???

I want one, but like jason said, its not good if your required to run a dot tire to race. If you can launch harder on the slick its going to really mess you up when you go back to a dot tire.

We only had 3 or 4 big tire cars last night and that has been the problem lately ..We need more of them to lay down some rubber ... Funny thing is they all run in the right lane because it hooks better .. So the left lane is allways bad because nobody uses it... That's why i jumped into the left lane to see if the tire would work there .. It did !! Now days we get tons of street cars and them damn street tires just kill the track .. Front wheel drive cars dragging water up to the line, digging holes in the VHT ..Rotary cars leaking oil and blowing up ....

Ha ha....you red lit.....
Sounded like you only ran to 1000 feet...wassup with that?

Seriously though, if you want to run in any "street" drags, that tires is a no-no. Guys will get their panties in a bunch when you run a slick. Nevermind that the 003 with tread hooks up just as hard.

Also, that tire isn't allowed in Pro-street.

I'm a little tried of posting my tests and getting crap over it ...So i'll tell you what , do you own funkin testing from now on ... .. Bunch of smart ass fucking assholes ..

Smokin,

I appreciate all your tests and results.
I'm sure that a lot of people here do also.

Smokin I'd like to see what your times and impressions are of the new power one. I know it's more expensive{$215}but it's holding some 550+hp pro street bikes. I was talking with Colby Adams a couple of weeks ago and they will be using it over the Micky...I would think the savings in weight alone would yield some small gains for you.

Smokin, if you do decide to post again, I would like to know how much more psi you got the slick to take over the 003 u-soft.

Lee,
I thought it was great info.
If I decide to run my bike out of class , for the fun of it, or need to make sure its hooking to dial in and tune the bike it sounds like best way to go.

Our local track prep is poor, and so a better tire would be caomparabl eon it to a well prepped track and a lesser tire.

Besides, when running the track for fun its all about maximum velocity and acceleration.
Wasting runs spinning down the track really sucks.

Most of us appreciate the info, just ignore the rest bro.
I wished many days I could hang with you, run the track, pick your brain, have a beer and some good laughs.
