Update on tuning my Cycle Logic lockup.

We had talked about this before and I have not updated on the progress of late. So far the best 60fts. we have achieved with it are 1.50-1.51 consistantly, tossing the lever at 6000rpm and wot immediately. The bike runs every number down the 1/4 within 1-2 hundredths every pass as long as you leave at the exact same rpm. Keep in mind the 16/42 gear and I am 235 suited. The static springs are custom ground and so are the shims I have been using. The goal is 1.45 60's but it may not happen. Any changes with static or weight, or both, cause negative numbers at this point it seems. Amazingly, the stack height wear of .025-.030 has not affected the numbers but 1 hundredth. The design of the lockup and the 760 lbs total weight have me at a non-progressive point now. If I were 40 lbs lighter it would be there I think. Come cool weather the 60's will drop. Unlike hand clutching where you get more aggresive with the clutch and throttle to make up for power, this is a fixed system where all the power you throw at it wot is put to that clutch setup. Makes for an excellent bracket bike but I dont care to do that stuff right now. I can do 1.47's by hand but want the consistency a lockup gives. Riding on the street is an absolute breeze with no interference from the lockup and no static slip. I have 1 more test day and might be going with the MTC single stage. Anyway, I just wanted it to be known that it can be tuned, but only to a point. BTW, stock engine without using the nitrous.

How bad has this been wearing the friction plates? It must be slipping it quite a bit if you are throwing it at 6k and pinning the throttle. Or so you would think...

It has maybe 90-100 passes and the total wear is .025-030. Throw it at 6000 and the stall rpm holds at 8-9000 and climbs. Most of the wear came trying to find the static in the first 25 passes I bet. You can toss the lever at 4000 and it will do 1.53's. Any more rpm past 6g doesnt make a difference in numbers.

I still haven't mounted mine up. Once I crack into the 8's I'm going to think about it. But only to hold nitrous, or see if it gives me some more mph.

Good job adapting it for this use though. A lighter setup might allow for 1.4's consistently.

I really think it will with lighter riders. All of my friends have been on my ass for fooling with this thing for so long. I have actually enjoyed the learning experience. I have set up 2 other brands for some street guys.
If you are using stock springs Shane the CL will give you 2mph maybe. I think that is what it did for mine, but I am a bit heavier total.

Once I get solid 60's in the 1.40-1.45 range, I will probably give it a try. I have 5 spacers with stock springs right now.

We'll see. Once I get those solid 60's and 8's, the nitrous is going on.

So Kawa, in a nut shell. what is the end result of what you did to the ending tune on your Cycle Logic lock up?

and unless I'm missing something, sounds like you feel it works pretty good.

The end result is after all this time of tuning I cant get what I need out of it as a tuned lockup without spending money at a machine shop. This thing takes a lot more static and weight than I thought to get where it is now. It was not intended or designed for what I wanted out of it. Am I happy with my results to this point? No, not really, but I tried something that was a challenge and got a great learning experience. The Cycle Logic does well for what it is intended, extra hold at high rpm. Not bashing CL's product at all so nobody should take it that way.
MTC has the answers for me in a 400 dollar single stage.
As far as numbers go I can only get 1.51's, 4.00's, 6.01's, 9.41-9.43's @145.5 out of it in the hot air down here right now.

My girlfriend's SWB Turbo ran 1.5's with a non-multi stage MTC, throwing the lever. 8.80's at 163+. So, if you know what you are doing you can get it to work.

You will have yours before I can get mine I'm sure. Make sure to get a set of the super soft springs from MTC. It uses a spacer plate like the CL instead of a modded cover. The lockup will come with .025 and .050 shims but the springs you buy seperate. I was told to put .075 shims on each spring to start off.

I have the MTC lock-up and never had much luck with it. I have had it for over 2 years and after fidgeting with it, I took it back out and went back to spacers. I had a problem with it locking early (30-40ft out) and pulling the bike down real bad. I went from low 1.4's to mid/high 1.6's. I tried everything...weight..less weight...no weight...more spring pressure...less spring pressure...heavy springs and lock-up...worn out springs and lock-up. Just never had any luck. Fought it for a year and pulled it out. I put my spacers back in and went 1.4's again. Right now i'm back to using all 5 of the Brock spacers and my 60's are slowly creeping back down into the 1.4's again. If i had more motor I would prob throw it back in and give it a shot, right now it's in the tool box collecting dust.

That is where I seem to be with the CL. Add any more weight and it bogs. Take some static away because of the added weight bog and lose short time. Take weight off and add static and it bogs 50ft or loses it numbers on the big end of the track. It is right at the balance point now.
That is the worst thing about the 14 is that the lockups will have 5 arms. You cant remove 2,3,or 4 like with a 6 arm clutch when you want to fine tune them.
