Rear wheel bearings
My rims are getting Powdercoated , all the bearings are sealed except for the one in the sprocket cush drive! I was curious why this one is an open type bearing and is it better to replace it with a sealed one?
Thanks Doug

I too am considering doing the powdercoating thing. I was told that the bearings must be removed and replaced afterwards because of the temperature the must be achieved in the powdercoating process.
Sorry, I'm not much help on the type of bearing. I was thinking about ceramics but I understand the cost is pretty high?

Hi scated , from what I have read , for the average racer, ceramic bearings are'nt worth the money.
I'm thinking of turning the rear axle around to get the protruding axle nut on the other side.
As there is not much clearance between it and my 4 into 1 pipe .
Anyone done this ,I can't see any reason not to .

you can flip the axle and the adjuster blocks no problem!
I always like to slide the axle in from the caliper side, as its easier to get it aligned with the hanger, and started that way.
I wondered the same Doug.
You probably could get a sealed aftermarket bearing

Open type bearings are fine if that side is packed with grease. We do it on forklifts to increase the grease capacity.

Bike shop tire changers seem to be a bunch of hack-ass low IQ monkeys who have no clue that a nice rim needs to be treated like its nice, not sent out gouged to hell because they didn't have the brains to take a little time and protect the fucking thing. The less you let those service department idiots touch you're bike the better off you'll be. And you should have made the lame-ass fuck-ups repair the rim to your liking.....don't let those genetic failures get away with that shit

That suck's Douglas. I powder coated for a short time in my shop and that frekin expensive tire machine caused me a lot of redone rims before the customer came to get them. My shop is just a hobby shop now but I got the No Mar. I find it easier to use.
