Shinko 008 slick ?

I have been running a shinko 003 Ultra soft and had good luck with the tire till now .. The last 003 ultra soft didn't last long at all .. I go a year on two tires but this last shinko didn't last 2 months... I was taking to a few Gixxer guys that come weekly to our track and they run the 008 shinko slick .. One of the faster guys gets a year and a half out of the 008 slick .. He also is hooking up when we with the ultra soft are not hooking .. He gave his worn out 008 slick to one of his friends ( a year and a half old slick ) and his friend picked up a tenth of a second over his old 003 Usoft ... The 008 is the same price as the 003 and I have one coming from Spencers Cycle and i'm going to give it a try .. I don't drive on the street anymore so i really don't need a DOT tire ...If i can get a year out of the tire and better hook it should save me some much needed cash plus work better on an ify track..
Anyone try this tire on there zx14 ? Any ideas on burn out time and tire PSI ? Is the 008 lighter than the 003 Usoft ? Both tires are 190/50/17 ...

Have a friend that's running one on his Busa and he really likes it, he runs 8.60's and does a short burnout and runs around 15 to 18 psi. hooks very well on our tracks and seems to be wearing good also.

ran one last year and loved it!! 14-18psi, worked when other tire didn't, lasted all year . Only reason i don't run one is because street ET requires a DOT tire. My best 60' ever came with that tire

Cool , thanks bently that is more good news ... The 008 feels softer to the touch than the 003 .. I hope it helps on the top end where sometimes I spin on the 003 in the 1/4 mile .. Our 1/8 mile is pretty good most days if we have a bunch of slick tire cars .. On the days where it's just street cars it can get pretty slick at the starting line .. Damn street tire cars really screw up the track ...

Thanks Johnny ... Bikes here have to run pro / super pro with the cars so slicks are ok .. They will not let us run street ET ...

i'm one that hated my shinko, never worked for me and I run on good tracks would be down to 8 to 10 psi almost every night and it would still spin out of the blue. I've been running the supercorsa and it has not spun once out of 172 passes and it was a road race take off when I got ahold of it, with no less then 18.5 and as high as 25psi at 64 inches. have a power one in the garage to try next but i think I can get another 25 to 30 passes out of the supercorsa. hope the power one last as long once I switch over to it. I like to get my 50.00 worth!LOL

Power Race were recently on ebay for $215 shipped for two rears. You just have to look around. I like the Power Race because I can use it at the strip and LSR. Based on what I'm seeing, it will probably last a couple hundred passes. I think a lot of guys go through tires quickly because they really overcook the burnout...

The power one race is worth the money. It lasted as long as my shinko, hooks just as good or better, and is 3 lbs lighter. Now my dog has claimed it as a chew toy, so it has more than one use.

Sorry got off subjuct....the 008 is a great tire. Few guys at track use it and they have good luck....other than teasing them it's a slick.

You could always get you a tire groover and put a couple line it....

I thought the slick is exactly the same compound as a U-Soft? So it would likely be the same characteristics as the 003, but a little stickier due to no tread. And just as heavy...meaning 15+ lbs.

I'm not sure that is right ... If you put the tires side by side you can clearly see the difference in the profile .. To the touch the 008 seems to be a different compound ( softer ) .. The 008 seems to feather the rubber after a burn out and the 003 just gets a gummy feel .. The 008 worn out still has a crown and the 003 is flat (no crown) ...

That would be nice rick but 214 bucks a tire ? Vs 110 a tire ....I may try a power one down the road but for test and tune it a waste of money ..

The tires are made of different material, We get the 008 slicks and for a few dollars more have groves put in it so it looks like a street tire. R.T's will ship it to your house like this. 18 psi and it will hook.
