Mine sometimes indicated 5th when it was actually in 6th, but the speedo was correct so it did'nt matter much to me.

Mine too. Brought it in 'cause I only had my 07 for a week before I noticed it. The shop basically said they didn't see anything wrong with it. I am perfectly willing to ignore it.....

How do you liek the 16/43?

I recently went down to 16 up front with stock 41 on the rear, Didn't notice tooo much difference, perhaps 500 rpm diff. Front wheel still stays plenty planted for me. 1st gear seems a tiny bit harder pulling, but not like it's a "new machine" as other state.

Is 16/43 suitable for 80mp highway runs without RPM'n the beast to death?

That's normal, mine might take a second or so to indicate the correct gear(in some cases). I'm still stock wheel base with stock gearing.... Normally I can just hear the tone of the engine to clarify which gear I'm definately in. Riding 600s for many years, I had to learn how to listen to the engine to determine what gear I was in. If anyone has tried to put your bike in 6th gear(but it's already in 6th gear) and you try and pull the gear lever upwards, it's not the most comfortable feeling on those toes!
