Got rid of the ZX14.

As of a week ago I am no longer a ZX14 owner. As much as I liked the bike I really missed the handling of the smaller bikes. Living in WV we have an abundance of twisties that I would like to take full advantage of. Granted the 14 handled great for a big bike, I really missed the handling of the smaller bikes. I am going to miss the 14 though, it was a great bike and I have nothing but fond memories of it.

Here are a few pictures of my new toy. It doesn't have the raw power that the 14 has but it's not exactly slow either.

The ride really isn't that bad. I need a short break every hour or so but nothing too unreasonable.

beautiful ride...I'd love to test ride that thing, not sure I'd want one in the garage.

lowcel - Why the MV over a 1198S? (just curious - MV a little more exclusive)

Thanks for all of the compliments. I traded the ZX14 the way it was, I didn't remove anything from it. I do feel that they were pretty fair on the trade though, they gave me $7,500 for it.

If I could have gotten an 1198s for the same price I may went that route. The 1198s would have cost me around $10,000 or so more though. I got the MV as a new leftover for $15,000. Another thing is maintenance costs, the MV's are supposed to be much more reliable than Ducati's. Since the closest Ducati shop and the closest MV shop is around three hours from me the distance to travel to get the bike worked on really did not come into effect.

I did test ride a 1098, considered than and the 1198, then I looked at some Aprilias but I really liked the way the MV rode and looked better than the other two. Even though I didn't get to test ride the Aprilia I did get to set on it long enough to figure out that it wasn't comfortable to set on to me. I have had both of my knees operated on this year so comfort is sort of important. The seating position of this bike is actually easier on my knees than the 14 was even.

Oh yeah, the pictures were taken when I first got the bike home so I hadn't had a chance to work on the chicken strips yet. I'll be sure to grab my dremel and remove them this evening though.

Looks good like great corner carver but oh so uncomfortable. I like to ride 300- 400 miles a day in relative comfort with plenty of brute power, good handling, and style. Thats why it's gotta be the 14 for me. Congrats, I hope you can live with ergos and maintenance requirements.

lowcel,

Just out of curiosity why did you choose the MV Augusta over the Aprilia RSV4?

I could be wrong but I don't believe the RSV4 is available yet, at least I haven't seen one available anywhere. The shop that I went to only had the RSV1000 and the RSV1000R Factory. From just setting on those I did not find them comfortable at all. I also really don't like the gold frame on the factory models, I know it's petty but I just can't see me owning a bike that I don't like the looks of from the start. I also don't like double exhausts. With the 14 that wasn't a problem since it was easy to go to a single exhaust. From what I can tell that is not an option with the Aprilias. In my opinion (as worthless as it is) the MV is just a much better looking bike. I realize in the grand scheme of things my opinion on the appearance doesn't matter, however on the selfish side it was my money so I bought what I thought was the "pretty" bike.

As far as performance wise, the Aprilia may very well be just as nice if not better. However, I am not a good enough rider to notice small advantages / disadvantages between the two. With all that said, I would love to get a chance to ride an Aprilia sometime. I would also like to test ride a new R1 sometime, even though I can't afford the insurance to buy one.

Beautifull machine!

Congrats!

I have a riding buddy with one of these, but he sucks the big one
and doesn't want to swap bikes with anyone. I'd love to try it.
BTW as good as you pics are, this thing looks even more
ridiculous in person IMHO.

They are supposed to be the most reliable Italian sport bike. From what I understand about $500 every 7500 miles which isn't too bad. I have heard that parts can be hard to get and can take a while but Aprilia has the same problem as well.

I rode duc's for 10+ years and can say that they do not cost a lot to maintain. but then again OLDER duc's are expensive.

My last Duc was a 996 and except for the scheduled maintenance I didn't drop a dime in it except for fuel pump hosed at 14k miles. It sat too long with gas in the tank and rotted a hose.
