Question about speedo and accuracy
Talking to Beemer owner he claimed that the speedo head can be modded cutting a resister and return the bike to complete accuracy. That was on a bmw of course and they make police bikes so they probably need a calibrated speedo. Does any one know if this is possible with the kaw? I realize of course that depends on stock gearing or maybe they have some kind of calibration possible. Not sure if all the info comes from the ECU or what.

You can always get a 190/ 55 rear tire and that will almost compensate
for the 8% error. The taller tire is great for the street but really bad for the
dragstrip... just take it from there.

Speedohealer seems to be the consensus. That's the easy out and costs money. Isn't there a some sense of adventure anywhere? Maybe someone has a broken speedo to take apart. I know its fairly cheap and is adjustable, the speedohealer, that makes too much sense. Thought about the 190 55 tire but at tire time none were available for the brand I wanted. Which is to say the cheaper tires. You see the common thread of cheapness here. I'll go one further if every one promises not to laugh. I used some citrus cleaner and cleaned my old air filter. It did a nice job and now use it. But that could be another thread.

used clusters with good LCD screen go from 250-400 depending on miles.
speedohealer is 100.00 its cheaper then getting a new cluster to mess with.

Get a speedohealer and you can adjust your speedo for whatever gearing you decide to run. Only takes a minute to calibrate. I love mine.

TooHype set your speedohealer at -10.8% calibration for 8% speedo error and 16/41 cogs!
This is what I did (off their website) but havent checked with a GPS.
Goodluck.

the difference is 16/17 =new vs stock= 1.0625
therefor the gearing change is -6.25%
stock it is off by -8%
14-15 % will correct it, but if you want to be able to hit the rev limiter in 6th and get everything out of it you will need to go -20%
The speedo would obviously be reading 5% lower than actual at -20% setting

The 190/ 50 will give you a wider contact patch when the bike
is upright and the 190/ 55 will give you a larger contact patch
when the bike is leaned.

SpeedoHealer rules! I never used the old one version, but the new version has two banks that you can set separately in case you commonly switch gearing, the ability to quickly switch between MPH and KMH (to eliminate top speed limiter) and it has a remote button to recall top speed. I've got mine set at -14% with my -1 front sprocket and it uses the KMH scale to display MPH so I'm putting about 40% fewer miles on the odometer. Get a SpeedoHealer, Dude, they're more fun to play with than the cluster.

Good point about the top speed recall feature. I like that one. Kaw should put that on stock like some other bikes Triumph for 1 I believe.

There wouldn't be a similar mod for the 14 speedo. The signal from the speed sensor (pin 13 on the cluster connector) is a pulse train. The frequency of the pulses tells the cluster how fast the bike is moving. To change the indicated speed you would either have to modify the programming in the cluster that calculates speed, or fool it by changing the frequency of the pulses going into the cluster. The latter is exactly what the speedohealer does, and a hobbyist would be hard pressed to do the same thing as cheaply.

The exact setting, or close as its going to get for 16/41 is -14.25 to -15%
That will limit your top speed to about 160 mph with an accurate speedo.
Stock geared literbikes will run away on you at top speed if you do not correct for it and the error.

so, to squeeze out more you have to set it at a higher negative value? haven't had a chance to let her rip to the end of the throttle yet, I installed the speedohealer on wednesday. Oh and toohype, just go to the heal tech website, they have a calculator for gear changes.

My bike hit something like 320 kms on the dyno...the dyno guy was surprised as he was watching the dyno's speedo and the bike went past 300!!
This was with healer set at 8%, so at 300 on MY speedo, the dyno was around 320 kms. The bike thinks it's going only 300 and that's were the limiter hits!!
