Keep or sell?
As I posted recently, I just had the cases replaced on my '08 ZX14 at about 1600 miles due to machining defects which caused the block to leak antifreeze. After getting the bike back, it has run just fine, but is now leaking oil from somewhere near the front sprocket (possibly a seal that wasn't replaced correctly when they rebuilt the motor). Anyway, I'm considering trading the bike in when the oil leak is fixed on a new '09 ZX14. I'm concerned that I am destined to have problems with this bike--first the rebuild of the motor and now the oil leak (which is no doubt related to the rebuild). Given my situation, would you trade the bike in and get a new one (with hopefully no problems), or keep the bike? Am I more likely to have problems with the old bike with the rebuild or not? What makes it worse is that I just put a fresh set of Pilot Powers on the old bike last week (before I noticed the oil leak). Opinions?

Me personally, it would be traded in because I would never have peace of mind.

Trade it in, who knows what else the tech's missed on the rebuild. I can imagine this:
Tech A "All done.... wait there is a washer on the floor"
Tech B "Probably isn't important"
Tech A " Yeah, these things are way over engineered"
Tech B "Ha ha ha"

I'm probably screwed in the short term unless I sell instead of trade it. I owe several hundred dollars more than the trade in value. If I sold it, I should have enough to put down on a new one without increasing my payment. I put down at least a couple thousand at the time of the sale so I could get out from under it in case I wanted/needed to, but they'll pork me at the dealership if I trade (not the same one that is doing the repairs). It is my understanding that the dealerships can put the VIN of the bike into the computer and see every bit of warranty work that was performed on the bike. I don't know if the rebuilt motor would cause them to low ball me even more on a trade in, but it seems likely. I had no plans to sell or trade until the oil leak caused me to question the competence of the techs who rebuilt it. I may have to hold onto it awhile and see how the latest repair goes. This sucks.

I would bringit back to the dealerwho did the work and start losing my mindon them. First bad cases with only 1600 miles, then oil leak. 1600 miles on a bike for me is only 2-3 good weeks of riding, maybe a month and a half if I'm working a lot. They should honor you.
Second, they should have just sent you out a brand new crate motor. Just a drop in. And yes the dealer can see all work warranty or not that is done on your bike through the dealer.

Once a crappy shop has been into your motor it'll never be the same again. Definately get rid of it
