what changed on the 08-09 ?

Why is there a different PC3 for these models ? I know that the fuel injectors and the ecu map chaged, but it seems to me that only the mapping would change .... did the TPS or wiring harness also change ?

I guess the question is , " Can I put an '08 ECU in my 06 bike ?"

I have seen 1 post that the PC5 also works on the 07, and that implys that there is no change ...

Anyone have any real info ?

Roy

main harness is different. injector wiring appears to be the same.

I picked up a wiring harness, ECU , and throttle bodies off of an 08 for 200 bucks. wiring harness looks the same so I put the 08 ECU in the 06. It starts and runs without throwing any codes. It does idle higher so there is something going on with fuel , I think.

right now I am thinking that a couple things have changed...

1. fuel injector flow rate ( I had read that in one of the other threads)
2. fuel pressure ( I would assume that the pressure would have changed for higher flowing injectors)
3. TPS resistance at idle. Anyone have a manual for an 08 ? I think the 06 was .61-.68 volts at idle.

with the horsepower being the same between the 2 models, it would seem that the same amount of fuel delivered would be the same. I was hoping that the dwell time on the new injectors on the newer models would be lower, leaning up the 06 setup if the 08 ECU is used

I need to check the AFR and see if that is correct. It would be nice to be able to upgrade the ECU on a stock bike and get the increase in low end power that the newer bikes have. And maybe figure out a combination to lean up the bike at high rpm so a PC3 isnt needed .

hi
i fitted the 08 injectors on my 06 model, and despite the 08 injectors having 2 extra spray holes, they deliver much less fuel, big numbers had to be added to my power commander .
does seem to be better fuel economy now , cannot say about power as i made cam timing changes and they did not work so have tried some different numbers

It's advisable to change one thing at a time when you're experimenting.

hi roy
on 10 per cent throttle it averages plus 40 and 60- 100 per cent throttle averages plus 20 so it is not uniform
when i first fitted them fuel consumption plunged , as it was natural to think richness , but in fact they needed a lot added with the 06 ecu

I wonder is the 1st gen and second gen run the same fuel pressure even though they use different injectors.

i would doubt it ...

but I am confused.... I would have thought the injector ratings would have been at some standard pressure , and the newer injectors have a higher rating.

so with the same pump ( pressure ) the new injectors should have been richer with the 06 stuff ...

I hooked up the computer and measured the AFR at idle and at 2500. With just the ECU change , the 08 ecu runs just a litlle richer ( 14.0 vs 13.5 at idle). It looks like it is not much different than the 06. I will try to get to the track on sunday and do back to back runs with both ecu's and log the data. Now I am guessing that the the big differences are the fuel pump and the injectors.

I do have bored out throttle bodies , pipe ,SB6 ignition and PC3 , but I would think that swapping just the ECU and logging the data will show the relative differences in the ecu maps.
