Oil pump on a 'zook

I know this is a little off-forum, but I figured some of you guys would have experience with this. I cranked my '97 GSXR 600 this morning and the idiot light shared by the temp and oil immediately came on, too soon for temp, so I shut it down and checked the oil level. It was good. I started it again and watched the oil level in the sight glass. It didn't move on start-up or when i revved it. I drained the oil and pulled the oil pump. The gear that drives it off the clutch assembly is in perfect shape, the pump spins freely both bolted in and in my hand. Any ideas?

I have idea's and know what --- I --- would do.... if you do so its at your own risk, and must be done right...

If that all looks good, you need to put it all back together and fashoin an oil pressure switch
Next to check the oil pump and it drive.
Does the oil pump turn when the motor is cranked... you can check it by disconnecting the spark plug harness, and cranking it over... its ok to do it for a few seconds with no oil in the sump... but no more..., on the 14 you would have to do it dry, or have an oil bath, short of dissasmbling all of it.
