08 Busa shock

It's been some talk about installing a 08 Busa spring on 14's. I'm concerned about it being too stiff. I am 215 without gear. I'm 6 inches over stock. I'm lowered 3" in the rear and 1 1/2" in the front. Has anyone tried it? Any info?

Thanks,

Jay

Very interested.. But can you get a busa shock cheaper than a aftermarket one? I don't think it would be too tight, but don't the bikes weigh ab the same? Anyone know if the busa is a stiffer spring?

Booza spring is stiffer, and the Showa is very adjustable, it responds well to minor adjustments unlike the 14.

The ZX14 spring rate is 9.7 kg/mm

The 08 Busa spring rate is 13.1 kg/mm

Waz up. I like the Cannon. It Looks good, sounds good and makes good power. But it hangs too low for dragracing. It is actually part of the reason I need to stiffen my suspension.

I had a hayabusa Ohlins drag shock on my bike, i say had because when i went to put on my fuel tank it wouldn't clear. Length is the same just have to watch out for the resivoir as it wont clear a 06-07 fuel pump drop down.

08 - 09 may work.

so can you use the shock/spring together,as it was on the busa?or just the spring?does it have to be an '08 up?racetech recommended a 11.7kg spring for mine.

13.4 is what i calculated for 6" over, and 200lbs.
That would work well, but better with the entire shock, as the damping curves would match the massive rate increase....

Hey Dubious,

That's sounds like a good excuse for me to lose 15 lbs. Lol. Do you know if the entire busa shock (08) will bolt up? I've only heard of people using the spring.

busa shock? more factory junk, although the Suzuki part may be better. here's the real shock for the ZX14 and a link for it:

Well I would take a 70.00 shock over a 800.00 dollar one in a heart beat. If I was a hardcore roadracer well then it would be a different story but for the drag strip the busa shock would probably be eniugh for most guys.

Contact RaceTech and get a new spring for the 14 shock. They helped me Re-spring mine and it was cheap as hell and a piece of cake. Ask for Brad Bailey (951) 279-6655 Ext.111

Not sure if it fits, have not tried it.
You are the first i heard of it, but here is more reason if it does...

race tech recommends a 10.7 spring for a 200 lb rider , race application, on stock wheelbase.

http://old.racetech.com/evalving/SpringRateCalculation/dirtspring.asp?brand=Kawasaki&yr=06-08&ml=ZX-14&formuse=form1&SpringType=Fork

The 6" additional length equates to 25% more leverage over the stock swingarm, as the stock swing arm is 24" long + 6" (25%) = 30 "
10.7 x 1.25 = 13.375

Keep in mind thats 30% more spring rate, and additional damping charachteristics would be optimal to control the rebound on that spring.

The busa shock is already valved in the ballpark for that spring, so it would be a very economical way to acheive better suspension control on a 6" stretched application.

it would be in the ball park for a 215 lb rider as well.

One might need to consider adjustable lowering links to set rider height, as I doubt the busa shock is the same length as the zx14 shock.

I GOT AN OHLINS

WAS TRIING TO HELP OUT MY FRIENDS ON A BUDGET

IF THE BUSA SHOCK IS THE RIGHT LENGTH ( OR YOU HAVE THE RIGHT LENGTH LINKS), AND PHYSICALLY WILL FIT,
THE BUSA SHOCK WOULD WORK MUCH BETTER THAN THE POS STOCK ZX14 SHOCK FOR A STRETCHED BIKE, OR REALLY HEAVY RIDER ON A BUDGET.

A SPRING IS A SPRING, THEY ALL GET WEAK OVER TIME
THE VALVING IN THE BUSA SHOCK IS BETTER SUITED FOR THE 13.4 SPRING TOO.

I USED TO BE A RACE TECH SERVICE REP, AND DID MOTOCROSS SUSPENSION, WHICH BTW IS MUCH HARDER TO DIAL IN THAN ANY STREETBIKE SUSPENSION

I DON'T THINK I NEED A GURU.....

maybe on paper, but go to one AMA drag race and you'll see that none of the fast 14s run this. they have all found better options.
