Torn o-ring on otherwise good drive chain
Yesterday, as I was lubing the chain on my 07 zx14 with 7,000 miles on OEM chain (no mods), I noticed one of the outer o-rings on the chain was torn, and it fell off when I touched it. I lube the chain religiously every 600 miles and adjust whenever slack gets over 1.5in, so I'm a little annoyed that an o-ring on an otherwise perfect chain would just pop off. Any ideas on what could cause this or how to prevent it? Should I replace the o-ringless link with a new master link, or replace the whole chain, or just lube more often and leave as-is? There are no kinks, no rust, the chain is otherwise perfect. Thanks for any advice.

some racers have pulled all the orings out. one won't be a problem.
How many miles on that chain?

Thanks for the reply. 7,000 miles on this chain (original OEM). I was hoping it's no big deal, but then again I've seen some nasty pictures of chain failure so I guess I wanted to see what others had to say.

I'd mark that link and keep watch on it! I had a master link that i messed up an o ring on and that o ring eventually fell off . I thought nothing of it and went on riding like that . 15,000 miles later the chain started making noise like thump , thump , thump and i could feel it! The pin where there was no oring was worn almost half way through ! I needed to replace a few links to remedy that situation.

Depending how Hard you drive a stock 14 chain will last 15 to 20K miles. My friends 06
he rides hard and will roll on with anyone but does not do burn outs just replaced chain and both sprockets (steel) at 19,000 miles. he cleans with WD-40 and wipes off excess and goes. No chain lube as it just catches more dirt than leaving it clean and adjusted.
They are pre-lubed from factory. I really like his new EK-ZZZ and do use the shims for installing the master link. He also has a EK chain breaker kit, first class tool.

If you know the exact type of chain, just replaced that link with a master link and it will be as good as new.
